~* In A Clearing *~He summoned me, and I went. He led me to a small clearing, Such a quiet spot, almost hidden, Buried in the woods of his past. My body froze in that silence. He told me how these woods Provided his food, home, faith, A sense of well being. Overjoyed in memories, He smiled his toothless smile. I was today to hear power. He would summon the great wolf, Creating a bond forever, He becoming my guardian spirit. I humbled as he sang the Sacred song of the wolf over me. My heart beat in unison, With every bang of his drum. I sat frozen in his time, As he chanted to the wolf Bidding his presence, To share in this strange ritual. Spellbound in hope, I heard Every note he chanted, Every beat of his drum, Passed down from generations Of his forefathers. So miniscule was the tiny Cedar seed he picked up And held in his cupped hands. This, our link to creation. Echoes of the sacred wolf song, Whispered on sunbeams, and Whistled through the trees. Resounding off the rocks. And we waited for the wolf's cry. None came - so louder he sang. Almost obsessed in his purpose. Soon tears replaced his song. He realized there were No wolves left to respond. His heart heavy in the knowing He was unable to give me Honor, and faith in his past. I remember it well, I said, “Are you finished Grampa?” “Can I go play now?” He nodded in approval, I ran on, but I turned I saw my Grampa, our Chief, This proud man I worshipped On his knees, head bowed, Crying tears of shame. ~*~ Art: "Sprirt of the Wolf" - Paul Calle ~*www.world-wide-art.com*~ Music: "Fire Circle" - Elan Michaels ~*www.members.xoom.com/elanmichaels*~ ~*~ I write, therefore I am ~*~ [This message has been edited by Mysteria (edited 04-08-2001).] |

Don't we just wish, though, that we had stayed a moment longer, to let the wisdom sink in.... You have brought to mind a poem that I believe I shall repost....you will know it when you see it.... enjoyed! |

He was trying to give you a lesson and he did. Perhaps the wolf didn't come but you found compassion from him, my friend. Joyce |

Well done. It seems like I keep repeating that for your work. I don't mean to be redundant. Your works seem to have no horizon ... Live for love. Without love, you don't live. |

Red-uni: I am honored to think you wish to save this. I love the old ways and use them as much as I can daily. I feel blessed in having even a fraction of the knowledge I have, and thrilled about what yet I am to learn. Interloper: You truly are a wonderful supporter, and I do thank you so much for your constant endurance of my "epic" stories. |

You took me home again to the reservation, to the stories that were tender, to the mystic realm of spirit. "I am not now that which I have been." |

Martie: You GOT the lesson - you get the gold star! I am not surprised you did, and so pleased that you understood and liked it. Cheryl: er Kismit - It is your love of spirit and music that drew you in, and it is that same love that will someday be your path to serenity and peace (trust me on this) oh...thank you for reading, hehe. |

I was drawn so deeply into your story and listening so intently for the wolf's cry that I didn't realize my speakers were turned off until I was almost through reading all these replies. *S* That realization just gave me an excuse to re-read and again appreciate a superb poem... for once, a blonde moment pays off. *S* |
