You seem to see straight through me As if I'm not even there You are not even capable Of holding my fragile stare A look of pure disgust Is what I see in your eyes As the seagulls circle above In the cloudy grey skies A blur on society Is how you see me Without showing any interest In how I came to be I was once a successful businessman Fancy suits I once used to wear Many people once respected me No one used to stare You go home to your loving family I spend the night on a park bench You are surrounded by warmth and love From the freezing cold my teeth I clench My gloves they have no fingers My clothes are full of holes My shoes are falling apart There are barely any soles The hair around my face hangs limply Such a fragile form am I At night as I try to sleep I wonder what it'd be like to die Heaven would warmly welcome me I'd never be treated as scum No one would every say "You're just a lazy, drunken bum!" Such a paradise I'd find Where no one would question me We'd all be treated as equal My spirit could be free But this dream is at an end As the morning sun invades my eyes The pigeons are all around me And I'm back home now I realise |
