I had a troubled childhood I often fought with Mum and Dad But it is only now I realise Just exactly what I had I ran away from home At the tender age of ten And within about a year I'd been abused by many men Other street kids gave me pills They said to take away the pain But at night I could not sleep My inner demons would remain Now I'm hooked on heroin And I walk the streets at night I'm so alone and so confused Sometimes I'm as high as a kite I don't remember much of anything And have no memory of their face When they use me and abuse me I lose all dignity and grace From my dark and grimy room I hear the chiming of a bell I wonder who will be my saviour Who'll save me from this living hell? * * * * I should point out that this was not written from personal experience. |

This is really good, Sue. Unfortunately, too many of our children are out there....thanks for the reminder. ~K~ |

that was great. often poems that ryme sound really unconnected but you did a wonderful job with this one. it's amazing how you can describe something so tragic and sad and yet not make it sound completely disgusting. well all in all it was beautiful. keep writing. I am so very grateful for your comments. I find it a challenge to try and step inside another's shoes to see how life is for them. Take care......Sue I am in motion |

Hi Sue, this is a very powerful reminder of the number of children who are roaming the streets and in trouble. Somehow society has to realize that children are a precious gift and we need to be there for them offering love and protection. Not all adults are not meant to be parents. There should be safe houses where these kids can go. They should not be on the streets hooking and doing drugs. Thank you for writing this. I am glad I have never been in those shoes, Sue. But then I am sometimes overly cautious with my life. Hugs Maureen |

Sue, Great work at stepping outside yourself and experience the pain and struggle of another. Nicely done. Best, Naome |
