In a risky November's coming
The point of our lives beginning.
The domain that you built
To halt my hurt, my not-growing.
You would drive your pen,
And bore deep your contention
Insistent of the future-
And the distance of years
Should our shelter be un-done?

Sometimes you would love to play,
The chords never woke me
And I would sleep in my bed,
You built it for me, apart
From outside indifference.
Sewn with little lights,
Fraught with things, a wreath some lace -
A canopy of dresses, hanging
Spectators to this our preserve.

Flowers and twigs, stones and leaves,
Things I had chosen for their shape.
Or colour, However meaningless.
Climbing the iron.
Your little bird, this my cage.
Your Wendy-bird.
Here to be your mother, wife, lover,
To not discover adulthood.
Gloss-black-jackdaw, guarding trinkets.

You would often film me sleeping,
Through the clutter, light allowing.
If not then, always without my knowing.
Painted like ice, kimono neat.
Obsessed in severe perfection,
Even in my dreams, (you knew with ease)
You labelled and kept these volumes,
Spine out, code marked, shelved tight,
Your archived possession, by date.

Never to be watched, never to be touched
My voyeur. To the day-
It was your piece forever captured.
The peace of me, you took away.
