a palm frond lies embedded in stone a fossil fish looks back at me a turtle is statuesque my doorstop a drumstick from a Uintathear Paleo People left me a point which I regard as a work of art this land does not give up its past without deciding the merit of the gift yet to the “schooled” I am a “pothunter” a despoiler of “cultural resources” they forget these are my ancestors these things are their legacy to us and they choose to whom it is bequeathed in the finding |
