Dreamscape Gazing in a broken, shadowed mirror I see reflections of a stranger A tattered voo-doo doll with pins piercing the focus of my destiny Tales of new hopes and dreams circle my brow like a hand-me-down halo Resisting the circle of promise I ponder the meaning of my existence Tossing the borrowed dreams upon a dusty floor I fall to my knees Nails clawing at the wooden exterior that divides my home from the fires of denial Hidden in the soil Buried deep in the dark layers of this ancient Earth Surely There are dreams waiting for me Fine seeds waiting to be nourished by my heart Tended by my hands Growing in the light of my unclaimed love They speak of life with lust and a profound yearning to explore I turn the handle of my cell and shiver as my bare feet embrace uncharted ground Walking through this life with a narrow mind and closed eyes I see only the shadows upon the walls Scattered notes left by those lost souls that have tread this path before me I know not the names But the words are bitterly familiar They poured from the heart of a kindred lost soul Finding comfort in the remnants of pain I scribe my own story of strife upon the walls dampened by the tears of a thousand drowning eyes Eyes that saw the light, and dared to flee the dark In dreams I see the light My mind takes leave of my futile senses and allows me to breathe in the air that hugs my lungs and kisses the angry wounds left on my angry heart Inhaling the scent of magnolia that blooms outside my window Soft, sultry buds of life The renewal of Spring I recall the sun The way it sang to me Striking the chords of my being with warmth and lasting light The time before dark took hold Before my journey into nothingness began The journey has been so damn long My will is short and softly faded Ravelling like soft denim frays of fabric Worn and frazzled to the core Tossed aside like a dirty garment from a second-hand store I see no hope of mending the holes left in my wounded soul In the distance The song-bird of life beckons me to soar with the grace of tomorrow's freedom Releasing the pain that binds my wings and leaves me grounded Often I am left to wonder if my arms could embrace the light and find flight upon the misty, blue horizon Could I fly with broken wings and half-fuelled fire? Is it the light I seek? Or is the dark my only friend? The one constant companion that my soul has ever known Do I dare abandon the fury of the storm? I have drifted among the tides for ages it seems A lost message in a bottle that drifted in the salty masses with no destination No hope of being found Until you... You You are the new dream that eludes me The hands that warm my lifeless, cold spirit Breathing new life into a battered body Unafraid I cling to words that pour from a heart of flowing fantasy Begging to seek shelter in the ink-clad verse of your wonder Wishing that I could be a whisper upon your lips A melody that teases your ear The touch of a thousand touches Do I dare dream? The power of your words The power of pen pressed to parchment A regal meshing of the spirit Words caressing words Altering the dark Hemming the black seams of a weary soul with silver strands of strength In dreams I saw the light Perhaps You are my dream Please Step lightly Whisper softly Just let me dream... |
