(Again... since semi-colons delete everything that follows them, I've substituted semi-colons with ...dots) *********** You came to me in a dream last night, as monsters often do. I didn't understand, at first, the Boogey Man was you. You gave me hope then broke my heart, just like you'd done before. I woke with tears upon my face and cursed your name -- I swore! So now I've got to ask you this, and please don't take it wrong... I need to let you go, at last, if I'm to carry on: "If I were you and you were me, and you were left behind... would you not want the grief to end?" Well, darlin', that takes time. I cannot have you haunting me and driving me insane... reminding me that you're not here and won't be e'er again. The loss of you is hard enough to cope with every day. So take these mem'ries with you now and, please, just go away! [This message has been edited by Lily B (12-29-2001 04:20 PM).] |

Lily, I know how hard it is to let go of someone you've loved. May you find the strength to do what you feel is the best thing for you. Always remember there is someone somewhere waiting to find just you. Dawn |

Soon the bad memories will fade and only the good will stay! It just has to be that way or else ... whew! ... how would we survive? |

Ain't this the truth!! My ex & I have broken up a couple times in the past 2 1/2 years & it seems that just when I start to get over him, he's back at my door & we try it all over again--I know it will never work out with us & so this time I know its for good & I hope he sees it too!! This expresses how I feel perfectly, thanx for sharing!! ELMO |

Isn't it curious how poetry (or ANY words, for that matter) are subject to readers'/listeners' interpretations? It seems many readers interpret this poem as directed at an ex-lover. I can see how that happens -- it could definitely apply. I actually wrote it after having a dream in which my deceased sister came to me and said her death had all been my imagination; she was really alive and well. Of course, when I awoke, reality set in... and the joy and hope I'd felt for those few moments in my dream were lost. I'd felt a little betrayed. I decided I didn't want to dream about her as living anymore, and it wasn't in my best interest to dabble in "what-ifs" anymore either. Anyway... just thought I'd share my intent when I wrote it. I enjoy knowing that it means different things to different people, though. ~Julie~ [This message has been edited by Lily B (01-27-2002 12:42 PM).] |
