Did You Know The Buffalo ? ~*Marge Tindal*~ Bison befell a cruel blow taken with the land of long ago Herded by the slaughtering hand of the sheer savagery of man Did you know the buffalo the buffalo - the buffalo Oh, did you know the buffalo that lived on prairie range ? If you see the buffalo tell me, please, where he did go If you see the buffalo that lived on prairie range A long time coming and a long time gone Did you know the buffalo that lived in legend's song ? ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Yes and I knew the muffin man also. Just kidding. As you know, many tribes were forced to change subsistence patterns from farmers to hunters of buffalo in order to survive. To me the real tragedy was the buffalo slaughter for sport. I have been fortunate to see a real buffalo and it is a very strong and enduring creature. Bob <>< |

I was fortunate enough to actually see them out on the plain...Im sure they werent actually free...but what a magnificent sight they were...and theres a great place in Oklahoma...you can get very close to them...I ws there as a kid and have taken my boys there...they have one big old bull thats just a sweetheart...and yes I know thats not how they should be...but it gives you a chance to really see how huge and powerful they are. |

You knew I would love this one and I do at that. I know of a buffalo ranch where they are raised and allowed to roam free over hundreds of acres in the mountains north of Los Angeles. Not the same as roaming free as was intended but never the less, they are beautiful creatures and I am glad to know that they are efforts at saving them. Beautifully written my friend. Ah Marge, you had to know this would strike a cord in me. One of the best I've ever read from you, especially about those times long ago. I've been trying to write about the buffalo but now am satisfied it's been done in the way it should be. *Applause* here my friend...deep bow from me to you. jwesley |

Karilea~ Thank you for needing to feel this piece and for the reply. LightHouseBob~ Thanks for the read. The real reason for the carnage was to delete the food supply for the Indians. And, yes ... they are now making a comeback of sorts. But of course - never again in the numbers of those days of long ago. SEA~ Wouldn't it have been wonderful to have known them as the free-roaming creatures of the past ? Alas, nothing is - as it was. Thank you. Paula~ Thank you, my friend. I know that you will share the history of the buffalo with your children so that they will know the legends of long ago. MarkB~ Thank you, hon. No - never the same - until the peace comes. And it will ........ JWesley~ I appreciate the bow, my friend. Such a magnificent creature that was held in reverence to the tribes of so long ago. Kit~ I do appreciate your reply, dear lady. Charisma~ Such a lovely graphic, my friend. The gentle eye of the buffalo holds a promise to be foretold in the coming of peace ... one day soon. May it be - may it be. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Marge, just another wonderful poem by you dear... We have a Buffalo reserve in Ontario Canada with lots of them... We are very lucky that they are not extinct like so many other creatures man has totally wiped off the face of this earth. Its very amazing to see them live. Parker |
