Shall I Ask Him to Stay? |

Shall I Ask Him to Stay? Is it you? Can it be? Who once broke my heart Tenderly begging for another start What can I say after all of the years How can I dismiss the sorrow and tears And yet, here we are, the two face to face Should I laugh or cry or warmly embrace? I need a moment to think where I’ve come The promises broken, the laughter undone A heartless goodbye still reels in my mind The manner in which you left me behind The sorrow was churning and burning my soul And left me unable to discover my whole And yet I remember the glorious days The love and the passion, your soft tender ways The hope and the dreams we set out to find The magical moments carved into time And now face to face, can I tell you the truth? I have loved you deeply since days of our youth Everything changes, and time doesn’t stop But my love wasn’t changed by the hands on a clock Should I turn you away, or ask you to stay? Will you hurt me again as you did on that day? You suddenly appear without even a call As though nothing happened between us at all So what shall I say and what shall I do As I stand here looking so deeply at you? Admit my love, or tell of my pain? This agony taunts me again and again I awake with the dream still fresh in my head Recurring fantasy haunting my bed I was talking to him, he was just here with me This is surely mental telepathy He must be thinking or dreaming of me For the dream was so real I still vividly see Now how should I end this one today Shall I turn him away, or beg him to stay? Oh Liz ... I don't think I could read any faster than that. I was wanting too much to find out how this turned out ... what an emotional roller coaster these words describe, beautifully written (now back I go for a slower read)! Best wishes and hugs, /Kit |

Why must it be a stay or go situation? Why can't it be a maybe...let's play awhile and see if it's truth or moment? Anyway...wonderfully questioned, my friend. jwesley |

I hope everyone understands that this was just another dream, and the question is, how will I end it today. Dream or not, I still have you, Toerag. That's so comforting Thank you all for your kind remarks Liz |

Powerful piece, excellently crafted. Love the responses it conjured as well. Don't know much else to say...agree pretty much with jwesley, and Toerag made me LOL. But since it's a dream...let him stay, if he will. Those dreams can be awfully fickle. |

Liz--Time is forgiving as well as changing...and your dream may some day be real...opening doors is always a good thing, I think...I loved this poem! |

Hello Liz, I know exactly from where you write these words, and it is a very, very difficult decision to make. You have really brought out some of the feelings that I have. BC |

Dreams usually depict our deepest desires or most dreaded fears. This dream may contain a bit of both. I'm sure if it ever becomes a reality, you will know just what to do! Denise |

I got that this was a dream, and your question for the day was what to do...go or stay. This was powerful, and kept me hooked all the way through. As always, I love your poetry. Marie~ |

If there's love in your heart even after all of those years shouldn't you at least give it a start, to know if it's still love for real or some fantasy feeling that isn't quite real only way to find out is to ask him to stay. Very nice poem |

This cowboy was completely enveloped in this write of yours my friend. I too had dreams like this for many many years. I now know the answer (to mine)but only you can answer yours. I hope your answer is turns out more positive than mine did. Somehow knowing the size of your heart and the way that you so clearly see things, I don't think you will have a problem finding the right answer for you. Superb write as always. |

I remember so vividly - when I was in your shoes - some 11 years ago. we'd been a loving couple - out of the blue - she disappeared - married - within a few months we met again - she divorced - he was a drunk - we dated a few months - and I "turned her away". and will always wonder if she might not have STILL been the best choice - Follow your heart - its's a tough choice. |
