(Another Poet here - inspired - and assisted - I must express my gratitude) She waits to read this, She knows he’ll write it Like anonymously sent flowers he in his state, she in hers He is no Astair, Certainly no Chippendale But no fantasy No dream Captures him More totally – Than the two of them Wrapped in each other Dancing the night away Alone on the dance floor As the band grows more weary As they grow more charged He watches As she is no Rodgers But his gaze Allows her to Glide on his dreams And shift in waves Of transparent silk There, in his arms Wrapped softly In his mind A total movie cliché From hundreds of oldies Where the background fades Eyes become watery Gazes saying ‘This is real We’ll wake to it’s certainty’ Her back supple Beneath his hand His shoulder strong Under hers With no drink He is intoxicated By her scent His closeness His look Have destroyed her will To resist or delay Had she had any She remembered she’d worn A hooded red cape- A ‘Red riding hood’ Homeward bound He recalled the words Of the big bad Wolf The first duty of love is to listen. |

You know, my Mom and Dad often danced across the living room floor, with little to guide them but the sound of R&H or better yet, Dad's humming... so if you don't mind, I'm going to borrow this little tidbit and tribute it to my folks....they would have liked this very much, very much indeed.... a wonderful read, Mr. Yeats....thank you and your friend for sharing such a delight.... |

What strikes me most about your work, Wilfred (or at least what poems I have read here at Passions) is the interesting combination of poetic tones, both modern and quaint. This is nice. Thanks for it. (o: Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

I like this very much... and like the title... from the physical separation in the beginning to the distance a couple involved in each other put between themselves and the rest of the world. *S* |
