For Scott, on John's PassingJohn Phillips, August 30, 1935 ~ March 18, 2001 This morning grief speaks, still in whispers. Our words, our world, small but larger, perhaps, than we need. Wisdom betrays the senses, pleads for the tenderest touch. I want to make you breakfast, listen to memories, hold you while you weep and breathe. Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

What a tender, loving poem for someone who must do the difficult task of grieving. So very nicely done. "I am not now that which I have been." |

Claire--A heart that reaches out like yours, is the caring that comforts grief. |

Thank you, Martie, for such a sweet response. Scott and John have been close for over forty years, since before The Journeymen. It is a difficult time for all John's folks and friends. Thanks very much for reading. Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Beyond green meadow, on distant hill, Upon the clouds, that float so still, Doth toll the bells, a faith now shaken, A friend so dear, by light now taken. A voice so fair, in silence lay, Amid the chants as mourner's pray, Our sad lament, in sorrow lost, As miss sweet voice, in chill of frost. Come hither, angels from on high, A gentle voice, in tomb doth lie, O' fairest friend, in sweetness sleep, Upon the wings, of angel's keep. May the angels sleep on your and your friend's pillows tonight Claire... |

Mike, (B.B.) your poem is tender and heartfelt and I thank you, most sincerely, for it. Sharon, I doubt I could ever write a truly adequate tribute to John ~ his contribution has been so great. I wrote this poem for Scott McKenzie, John's (and my) dear friend. Thank you so much for reading it. Mother Earth, Trillium, thank you both. Yes, John will be missed by all, especially those who knew and loved him. Sometimes when someone is grieving, all that can be done for them is simply in the being there. That is part of what this poem is about, to let my friend know I am here for him. John was one of his best friends. Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

What a beautiful offer of comfort. *S* Even those of us who know him only through his music grieve... my deepest sympathy goes to those who know and love him personally. |
