I saw the sun come up so bold
And glories of the day unfold.
I felt elated that I could
Walk within a snowless wood.
I thought that spring had come at last
But suddenly, a shadow passed
And looking up I watched clouds grow,
Appearing to be threatening snow
And long before I reached my yard,
The wind was blowing cold and hard.
The morning's promise, withered lay
Beneath a sky both grim and gray
And then the snowflakes swirled around,
Whitening the barren ground.
I left dark footprints as I passed
And when I found my home at last,
I saw the path that I'd been on
Was hidden now and simply gone.
The shadows had made me aware
Or else I could be lost out there!
My dreams of spring were premature.
There's still more winter to endure!

I like this one too, Betty and it is so true. I just came in and though the grass is green, the daffodils and some trees are in bloom, it is icy cold in the wind. But spring will come. Love, Joyce

It's been a long hard winter, hasn't it? I'm counting the minutes to Spring! Great poem!

Thank you all for commenting. I am getting really impatient for spring even though I know there's not a thing I can do but wait!

Trillium, I like the way your rhyme theme seemed so smooth and easy flowing. Very nice poem and let's hope Spring is here soon for you. Kate

Hi Kate: Thanks for your comments. I see you live in Florida, where it's nice most of the time. No snow at least.

Hi Sven: Thanks for commenting. I suppose your weather in Michigan and ours in Northern Idaho is much alike? We have trilliums in our woods when April comes and they are one of my favorite flowers.
