Harbor When I return to the coast, there my healing will begin. I'll sit in the damp sand and let the hot summer sun bleach highlights into my hair and beard, brown and turn my skin to leather. The warm, salt waters of the Atlantic will draw the pain from my being, soothe my frail body. I'll bring bread to feed the seagulls and watch as they fight over each small piece. I'll delight, as children laugh and play in the tidal pools, splashing one another and enjoying their precious youth. I will paint pictures of lovely women, the seashore, sailboats, as they do battle with the strong currents, heading inland to the salt marshes and a safe harbor. Somehow, I know that I will also find a safe harbor. A place where I can rest, share what it is that still thrives in me, where I am welcome. A place where I might heal. I know that this now fragile body never will, but the gentle spirit that limps within it must. Some evening, as I sit and look upon the moon and stars reflecting in these dark waters, perhaps I'll even find a cure for this devastating loneliness. Perhaps. This is excellent. The ocean, for me, has also been my place of healing. I ache for it at times. Your ability to describe that healing is outstanding. I compliment you. |

Michael--The ocean and the sun, the painting and the watching...all a part of healing...but the biggest part is the way you look at what you see. This poem is full of that. |

My Dear Michael, A positive attitude is an amazing thing. If it doesn't heal you physically it will heal emotionally. Enjoyed the feeling behind this. Dee I wish you every happiness and may you always have the best of the good things in life. a brand |

Beautiful scenes leading up to the end...what a great way to approach being lonely by reflecting on the beauty of the ocean and all the activities that surround the picture.... excellent write.....love the yearning aspect...take care ethome The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges. |

Sunshine, dreamkeeper, Martie, Dee, ethome and thecraig, I thank each of you for your kind words. Yes, healing is possible, but it does take a positive attitude in order for it to happen. The ocean to me has always been a place of healing, even as a child. Lately my spirit has been limping along. Hopefully soon, I will find it much stronger. Thank you all.
