Thank you, Kathleen, this was a laugh riot to colaborate with you on) The dance floor was ready soft lights in colorful balls hung overhead and the punch bowl hadn't been spiked yet! The handicap spaces were full from the teachers arriving for this special occasion! Peggy Sue had looked forward to this for years She walked in feeling as if it were 19??. (ouch) again. "In the still of night" began to play. OMG she was thankful she had shaved her legs! Her ponytail was just the right length and her barrettes were brand new. Only peach lipstick would do for this night. Annette Funicello eat your heart out! Shoo wopp su wa!! Shoo wop su wa! Shoo wop su wa! Looking around others were already snapping their fingers; exaggerating about their life and their successes and remembering how many times they had been married and to whom. Shoo dupe shoobe do Shoo dupe shoobe do But would the one person show up she had really driven all this way to see? Would he be there, her dance partner, the one who lead her onto the floor and into paradise with a snap of his fingers and a grin that made her knees unavailable for the rest of the evening. A few moments later the "Teen Angel" had died on the railroad tracks and women were crying as if it had happened yesterday. The cheerleading squad stuck out like sore thumbs trying to model the same outfits. The chaperones thought for a minute that Bailey's Circus had entered the wrong building. Peggy Sue rushed to the ladies room and began to light up a cigarette as she had many times before English class. "Oh Bobby, are you going to show up, you are my heart, my life, I love you, I want you please show up and dance with me, just like it used to be if only you were here I'd "go all the way" just give me a chance." But would he? Pink punch and Ricky Nelson carried her around the room, searching, bumping into people she did not recognize. They hadn't played the song yet, there was still time. Their song. They hadn't played it yet. Maybe his motorcycle broke down. Thoughts of sudden death loomed over her, perhaps he was (gulp) really dead! Oh no, not Bobby, he was indestructible he would survive, just like she had dreamed and he would show up, that's it! he was making an entrance. Peggy Sue hoped he would leave his motorcycle outside when he did. There he was. In one fleeting memory it all came rushing over her, Bobby, he was the one she always wanted; she just lost him on life's highway. He was often out of gas and the prices had gone up through the years. The band must have been clairvoyant, or it was the $50.00 bill she had handed them to begin playing their song the minute he arrived. Everyone knew he would be wearing a leather jacket, of course. The music began, he approached her, everyone stepped back to leave a lighted circle in the middle of the floor- OMG everything is perfection; stillness, the hush the balls even stopped swaying out of respect Bobby stretched forth his right hand with a yellow rose for Peggy and as she took it the song began and he led her onto the dance floor. the following lyrics in quotes are sung by Paul Anka, thank you Paul!! "Put your head on my shoulder, hold me in your arms, baby Squeeze me oh so tight, show me, (so he had some love handles, who cares?) "that you love me too" "Put your lips next to mine, dear" (Holy Mary, Mother of God) as he kissed her the crowd screamed!!!!!!!!! "won't you kiss me once, baby, just a kiss goodnight (she wasn't leaving yet!!) maybe……. you and I will fall in love" (Oh sweet heaven, no doubt) "People say that love's a game a game you just can't win (overtime!!) if there's a way, I'll find it someday and then this fool will rush in!!!!! Put your head on my shoulder, whisper in my ear, baby words I want to hear, tell me. tell me that you love too." They were still in love. This is great Dennis! I enjoyed this very much! I guess we all have that special someone that we will never forget, no matter the how far away life has taken us from them. |

This is way to wonderful and tender to be ROFL. It did begin with some wonderful nostalgia that I truly enjoyed...but ended in a dream we surely all would love to experience. Very fine stuff Dennis and partner! |
