Forget Me, You Say

How can I look at you,
be my friend, you say,
when all I long to do,
we had our time, you say,
is hold, hold you tight.

How can I think of you,
I really loved you then, you say,
deep in the night,
but it's gone, you say,
when it's just a pillow,
remember us that way, you say,
not your eyes in the light.

How can I still love you,
we had the heat, and the fire, you say
when it's no longer returned,
it was wonderful and beautiful, you say,
when all I have are memories,
but it's gone now, I love another, you say
of the love that we shared.

How can I keep from crying,
be my friend, you say,
how can I bear to live this way,
we had our time, you say,
I love you, I love you, how I love you,
Forget me, you say…
oh God,help me face another day.

Jimmy....
I must agree with Marge..Yes, 2 for 1 here..
I could picture 2 standing and both trying to say what was needed , at the same time..Wonder if either one heard??
Thank you for a wonderful read...   ~LL~

JWesley, I really enjoyed this very creative piece. The subject may not be the most cheerful, but you captured the feelings so well that I couldn't help but smile. Stay happy

James,
I loved the way you made this conversational and moved it back and forth between the two voices.
