I wrote this last fall right after school started. Fun to reread it now. Hanging On Just a Little Virginia Salter School has started yeah, yeah, yeah but I’m still right here typing away at silly stuff that I hold quite dear a walk is waiting for me not to mention work life is full of words like that four letters are their worth weeds are growing sun is glowing mower rests inside all it needs is someone willing to be its toiling guide children with their parents walk by outside in sun seeking classrooms, that are fine where they can learn with fun summer’s nearly ended a chill greets the sunny morn yet butterflies and gnat things upon the wind are born lazy hours in restful dreams must find an end today as seasons will pile up quite fast past verano’s quick decay can’t we just hold up our hand and holler a big, “Stop!” just to linger for a while before the big ball’s drop. © August 27. 2000 |
