It comes in waves, not the pleasant, meditative kind or the way you feel in me, but the sucking, treacherous swells where toes touch nothing, the sets rolling in with barely a breath between. When I was young, I jubilantly rode the surf, buoyant, salty currents ferrying me home. Now, I gulp more sea than air. Lifeguards say the trick isn’t to push toward shore, but to swim sideways. © 2001 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (edited 02-22-2001).] |

Something tells me there is more to this than ocean waves. I really enjoyed reading it and pondering its undertow...its underlying message. |

If I haven't conveyed to you that I think you are MOST EXTRAORDINARY -Let me say it now - NO ONE - communicates with the brevity and force that you do - In recent months I've read a number of great poems by great poets - perhaps more than I have in all the prior months of my life. I bought a number of books of Poetry by Sharon Olds - because I was SO impressed by her work, I went about xtolloing her praise, said she was/is the greatest contemporary woman poet I'd ever read. I tell you now in my opinion you have her talent and more - I most strongly suggest: You should work hard to get yourself published You deserve a wider audience and the world deserves the right to read you! (OK - I'm off my soapbox now ) |

Bill Charles - thank you - hmmm, are we speaking of the same thing? Sunshine - thank you! WayoutWalt - thanks, bud! Wilfred - Wow. I don't know what to say, except thank you. I don't feel worthy of such high praise (insecure poet), but I will endeavor to get my stuff out there more. Thank you again, your comments make this form of expression worthwhile. Agust P - thank you! |
