they didn't even give themselves time to mourn
isn't that what you're supposed to do?
when you lose a love,
isn't that what's supposed to happen?
aren't there stages to all of this?

you're not allowed to find a new love until the old one is
gone
but suppose the old one never leaves?
memories can be a powerful thing you know
their hold on a heart can be great
sometimes,
they're with you your whole life
they're in every song, in every sky,
                                    in every shadow

so we have to have a new love
to help us forget the old one
to help us move on with our lives

I did love you though. . .
did you??
          yes. . .

I would have believed it,
had I not been replaced so quickly

but suppose the old one never leaves....Trully a sad line. Memories are imprinted in us forever. But,thank God, memories can be replaced. Beautiful poem.

A quarter of a century must pass, for the writer to understand what and why he writes.

Whoa....rough one here Sven, but unfortuned, very true. You've penned this one so eloquently, when you could've simply lashed out. I think I'll save this one for later.

*sigh*

like one typeface can replace another in the entire design of things ... like it doesn't matter of it's serif or sans serif or....... *sigh*... yeah.... well? ... if it makes you feel better, i still set my own type and nobody can tell me to use more than two fonts in any document because... 2's company, and 3 is defintely a crowd.......

i loved your poem... thank you for sharing....

i hope my response made some kind of sense....

*sighs* Oh, this just broke my heart You express this so well with such acceptance, yet sadness, I am truly sorry (you know that I know). Here's a big angel hug for you! If ever you need anything, don't hesitate to email me

Take care,

Good evening, Sven. Your poem presents your reader, I believe, with some potent questioning, and of course I like that. Having written extensively toward the theme of love and loss and grief, I find myself captivated by your portrayal. It is a theme dear to my own bruised and basted heart. Thank you for this, tonight.

Be well.

There is a familiar sound to this
Sven...unfortunately we can't measure our
rate of healing to others...nor can we judge
others by how WE want them to feel...no
matter how strongly we feel it, I of course
am speaking from my own expierence and can't
make judgement nor comment on yours nor do I
pretend to know where your poem comes
from...just sharing the thoughts it evoked
in me...as poetry often does...take care and
hope you find the happiness you search for
and deserve~

Geesh..This is just pure heartwrenching, and whoever said something above about acceptance being in the mood...well..that makes it even more sad.

LOL! On the good side, you have written something once again that totally wraps me up in whats going on. Nice writing, and take care of you!

JLR, thank you. . .

walker, I don't know that memories can really be replaced, but we can move them aside for new ones. . .thank you. . .

Ali, I know. . . I could have lashed out here. . . but why?  It wouldn't change anything. . . thank you my friend. . .

inot2B, and I promise that you will always be one of my friends. . . thank you for reading. . .

helen, indeed. . . thank you. . .

dreamkeeper, not too much of an ouch. . . thank you. . .

Melissa, I know. . . it's just the way it is. . . thank you for everything. . .

Claire, I know that you as well know of what I'm speaking of here. . . and I thank you for your words. . . be well. . .

Holly, indeed we can't tell others how to heal. . . it's not a race. . . some heal faster than others. . . but you wonder what feelings they have (or had) that they could change so quickly. . . but again, all we can do is accept and move on. . . thank you for reading. . . take care. . .

Temptress, sometimes, you just have to accept, like I said earlier. . . of course, it doesn't make it easier, but. . . thank you for reading. . .

Kathleen, thank you. . . glad that you can see a lot here. . . and I'm glad that it inspired you. . .

Charisma, thank you my friend, but I am sorry that you can relate. . .

Lady in White, sometimes, we have to suffer that death. . . but this isn't about that death. . .thank you for reading. . .

well, as a man (boy do I feel like one on here) all I can say to this poem, is
as long as a lady is happy, they should be,
every last one of them.....

oh, I know, I know, believe me don't know you personally, and maybe this is make-believe, but a lady deserves to be treated like royalty!

Queen for every day.......

Sven I know that with acceptance comes the strength to go on...
a gentle reminder that we have control over no other feelings, desires, and emotions but our own...
When we choose to love it never guarantee's the object of our love will respond in kind..
They are always free to go...
Isn't that one of the beauties of love?
And at some point we let go..
Isn't that the sorrow of love?
And finally they replace us and we replace them...
Your words are wise and gentle...
James
