Watermelon kisses rest upon my cheek Sticky spots of treasure that leave me smiling, meek The loving lips that give them do my emotions tweak I know when he's a grown up, havoc on hearts he'll wreak Droplets of affection, rain within my day From my tiny grandchild and his loving way Grandma I love you this much is what he'll always say All of this in innocence, which he will keep I pray Fruity, soft confection in his mouth so small Placing wet, wet, lips prints wherever they may fall On my face and clothing and even in the mall The power of tasty kisses will never, ever pall Butterfly surprises in his little hand Takes the wriggling caterpillar under his command Then he gently gifts it back onto the land I hope he'll always see injustice and dare to make a stand I see the dirty handprint there upon the wall A tiny, apt reminder of days when he was small But he's growing older and he seems so tall I wonder if there's time to learn before adulthood's call Buttercup and daisies crown his golden head And his laugh so joyful fills me in its tread For all of love's nutrition, he is my daily bread Kissed by watermelon reminders before he goes to bed. Those of us who refuse to risk and grow get swallowed up by life. Patty Hansen. |

Keth this is absolutely beautiful! I don't have any grandchildren yet but I sure am looking forward to it. This poem is full of the sage wisdom of a wonderful Grandmother's love...something that can't ever be totally explained but makes the world go around.....take care picnic partner! The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges. |

I have children and some days their sticky kisses are what keeps me going. Lovely! A quarter of a century must pass, for the writer to understand what and why he writes. |

Kethry this is "sweet!" Nothing like those sticky kisses is there, made sweet by the sweetness of a child. <*\\\>< I know not what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future. I don't question YOUR existance - GOD |
