Gypsy Violin We wandered down a country lane Through towns we'd never seen Twilight shrouded every house With shadowed, darkened panes We let the Jeep just roll us on With silence the Cherokee was filled We just knew the stress was great The pressure strong it almost killed A light proclaimed a Romany Inn It seemed the place to stop Quaint with charm in rustic trim We pulled up and thought to drop We got out, the door swung open And strains of music came Floating on the evening air The sound of strings so fair Once inside, a quiet booth Some soft red wine to quaff Single rose in tulip vase A candle dimming fast The wine was cool upon our lips Its heady bouquet we inhaled Then once again the melodies Of the violin regaled The liquid notes of Romany life Our souls these strains softly found From a people passioned free And quickly our hearts were bound He wore a headscarf and Gypsy clothes But the notes he played so touched our skin His skin was dark and swarthy We recanted and softened deep within Recriminations slipped away Our hands on each other folded The wine? Perhaps. The song? It soared As our hearts melted close and molded We stayed the night at this violin inn Slept close as we hadn’t for days And swam in flames of reborn love The hurts we’d felt were all flayed Great souls have wills; feeble ones have only wishes. ~ Chinese Proverb ~ |

Pain passes when hearts re-find each other when they are meant to....a soft, sweet reward at the end of this piece....well done, Mr. Yeats..... |

Bill--The gypsy violin, the wine...some magic that was always there, but needed this place in time to live again...I love the romantic concept of this...and the spell you cast as I read...wonderfully done! |

Placid tones of Django Reinhardt ring in my ears as I read this. Good read. I would suggest that punctuation might tighten it up a bit and have made it a little easier to read. (For this reader anyway) Great imagery. Michael~ [This message has been edited by Jazzmole (edited 02-17-2001).] |
