the worst dream, to edward gorey The author awoke with a bloody handkerchief in his hand. He had just had a dream in which he was a worker at a mill. His job required the use of several lead spoons and a thimble. He wondered where the handkerchief had come from, then reasoned that it did not matter. He set to work in earnest on a new story. After several hours, time passed. After several more hours, more time passed. The author had written nothing; in his dismay, he watched frost build up on stones outside his window. The author suddenly awoke with a start. He was clutching a bloody handkerchief in his hand. He had had the worst dream, in which he was lying in bed. He realized where he was and set to work. The handkerchief lay entwined in his sheets. (end) |

S'en, Glad you liked it. This is what happens when I stay up too late reading Edward Gorey collections -- if reading's even the right word. Anyway, sorry about icq. I'm never on it -- you should know that by now. In fact, I'm never even on the internet until Friday nights anymore, except for e-mail and the occasional poem posting. I was getting tired of going to bed at 1 a.m. (ignore the pun) So, what's up? Mike ([email protected]) |
