The Prisoner Shivering in darkness by a stone prison wall Shivering in darkness by a stone prison wall He lies alone on the floor breathing must from the hall He lies alone on the floor breathing must from the hall Shivering on the floor by a prison wall in stone He lies breathing the hall must from darkess alone Walls too solid and high for a glimmer of light Walls too solid and high for a glimmer of light But the mind is not a prisoner to gates in the night But the mind is not a prisoner to gates in the night Too solid the high gates, and not a glimmer of light The mind is but a prisoner to walls of the night Open windows of a thought always soar to be free Open windows of a thought always soar to be free To sweet petal of rose if the mind let it be To sweet petal of rose if the mind let it be If petal of a sweet rose always thought to be free To soar open windows of the mind, let it be If petal of rose be not a prisoner of the walls But a glimmer of light breathing in must from the hall It is by a wall of the mind, too solid to soar He lies shivering alone on a stone prison floor Let the high gates to darkness for the mind always be Night windows to sweet thought, open and free Elizabeth Santos |

No one can do it like you, Liz! Here you are with an incredibly sad poem, with exquisite wording, and still, you manage to put on an ending with a hope! Beautifully written, my friend! My prayers remain with you and yours. . The spiritual wind that holds survivors aloft, plants the seeds from which bloom new hope ... R.J.G. |

THis paradelle made me dizzy alright. It's a kind of once every 6 months kind of poem. Thank you all for your remarks. It made the effort worthwhile Liz |

I still cannot do one of these... it takes a brilliant pen, and a more brilliant poet... so let this shine! |
