Between my toes I sense the shifting sand I deeply drink the shoreline’s salty air Each stroke created by artistic hand Recalls those simpler times beyond compare. The stress of pressing care is washed away I sail serenely on a sea of dreams Arriving on the coast of fair Cape May Nostalgia floods my heart in constant streams. The graceful gulls cavort in skies of blue As dancing sunlight plays upon each crest God’s majesty bursts forth in vivid hue Upon the canvas and my soul is blessed. Enchanting seaside memories designed Exquisitely are captured in my mind. 4/9/2000 *This is a poem that I submitted last year for a Cape May (N.J.) poetry contest on the theme of feelings experienced when looking at a painting by Thomas Kinkade. I submitted three; this is one that did not win anything. Another that I posted before won third place....but I think this is my favorite.* |

Denise, This is an excellent poem. Not only is your form well crafted (i.e. rhyme scheme and meter) but the visuals are easily seen as one reads this. I enjoyed this , thank you. David2 |

I see and hear the sea gulls and around where I live you have to dodge their droppings. Yes the water and sand is a favorite place to let your cares go. Very enjoyable poem. |

'The stress of pressing care is washed away I sail serenely on a sea of dreams' This is great, Denise! As for the cold weather, that doesn't stop me...we're actually headed down to the beach tonight. Nuts, I know...but the ocean is my biggest source of inspiration...except, of course, a certain someone... Beautiful poem!! Congrats on winning 3rd place too! sp 'cause I want nothing more than to sit outside heaven's door and listen to you breathing... |

Denise, this is wonderful, a perfect sonnet. I can't imagine how much better your others must have been! Great writing! To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |

Oh Denise, This is just so beautiful and soothing, the imagery is sublime! You are one of the rare poets to successfully capture the essence of nature with flair! Into the library this goes And I can understand why this would be your favourite! Take care, Melissa |
