On Beaches Just another crystal day in sparking southern climes, like every former summer spent in search of perfect times. Two girls on rusty bikes begin their coastal journey in the pink seashell dawn, they fly to the sea. Pacific Beach, with its seedy sorts wake from sandy sleep, to spend the day pandering, for beer, on the beach. The girls ditch their bicycles, walk along the softened shore, there they find true nature soaking in the ocean’s lore. Heading north to Bird Rock, down rocky cliffs they climb, hear the whisper of tide pools, they slip on lichen slime. Startled crabs click and side-slip into a cleft; the sea anemones’ soft sway lures with an almost feminine theft. Pedaling to Wind ‘N Sea, to watch golden boys surf, two girls passing through local, private turf. Next, on to Marine Street, where the kids hang out, to put in an appearance along their northern route. The last stop, Encinitas, a warm town to embrace, backs flat on the sand as sun and ocean race. © 2001 Corinne Bailey |

A fine poem and a great read, I felt the senses awakening in each and every line. "I walked beside the evening sea And dreamed a dream that could not be." George William Curtis |
