Miners Mutterings By Richard Maxfield 1-30-2001 In darkness of night I descend into the bowels Depths of mother earth To rob her of her treasure Hidden from the sun Amidst choking dust Pounding hammers ring Starching out black coal In secluded shafts Danger my companion Never ending toil To fire a nation’s furnace Cold wet feet Dirt covered body Longing for warmth Brightness of the sun I leave my mark Earning a days wage Soon to be spent And forgotten Some day I will search For the glitter of dreams From my mother earth Reaching the light Until that day I shall toil At the life That has chosen me |

This is very nicely done, and makes me think of a Welsh friend who actually has gone from a life in the mines to life as a poet. I would like to share this with him, if you don't mind. To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |

Thank you ladies for your comments. I'm on a kick of writing poems about things people do for a living. Feel free to shair this poem with your friend. Love and light, Richard |

Hi Maxtec1, Wow you painted a wonderful picture here of what they must endure, very nicely done. Love, Cerenity "God doesn't have to be reminded that we exist. We have to be reminded that He exist!" (Writer Unknown) |

Very well expressed. A life not many of us can imagine. Nice job! To capture and live a moment is truly living |
