Her Gilded Cage On gentle breeze, I used to soar, The vast expanse of evermore ... With windswept currents 'neath my wings, A song in heart, I'd sweetly sing. My feathered tips would dip and sway, While swiftly gliding cares away; Above the clouds, so strong and free, 'Tis there I lived a fantasy. A glory to behold, was this, And yet, I only reminisce; For now, in gilded cage, I perch, 'Twas plucked from heaven, fell to earth. *** He watches from the other side, To view his treasure ... captured pride; He sees the surface, not the soul, That weeps from tireless control. Her wings are clipped, her heart is scarred, 'Tis lonely there within the bars; Her strength is ebbing, put to test, Her song now silenced ... laid to rest. /Kit McCallum |

Does a bird that used to be free still sing? Beautifully done Kit. ![]() |

Kit, after reading that I don't see how anyone can say your poems don't make sense. That made perfect sense, and it was so painfully sad. Wonderful work. W.B. |

Oh, Kit~ This is so sad. As a true lover of birds - I can feel the silencing of the song. I believe you've written a lovely piece. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Kit- this is so beautifully written.. ![]() i can hear the sadness in this poet's song...a song to lovely to be silenced... ![]() 'He watches from the other side, To view his treasure ... captured pride; He sees the surface, not the soul, That weeps from tireless control.' in the soul, is the strength to keep the song alive...sing on, my friend. ![]() hugs, ~vicky "...until you have read the verse on his heart, you have not truely met the poet." -vlraynes |

This is a very well written poem. It is with clear emotion and tact. I liked it very much. It reminds me of another poem that I read in a Spanish class once called "Hombre Pequenito" with similar theme, about a caged bird. Well done. |

Kit, I got the wire cutters... we'll break you out of their.. ![]() Wonderful poem, though sad in its meaning. Maybe the bird should fly toward blue sky's for don't we truly have the key to our own freedom. Parker |

Kit, I would fly into a rage If someone put YOU in a cage. Your spirit must be wild and free To give the world your poetry. I must admit, one couldn't get A nicer, warmer, loving pet But some small cage is not for you Just be at Passions - we love you! FLORIDA: Home of electile dysfunction! |

Oh now you have me remembering and missing again my lovely Chico...who always did his parakeet best to buzz bomb and fly into the cat's mouth...on purpose! Thank you Kit! Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

Caged birds WILL sing, if only to call to the other birds...sigh...Thank you much, for this one Kit. Sadly, I could relate. |

Kit, beautifully expressed. Write on Kethry. Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant - Thoreau |

Thanks so much each and every one. I'm sorry I don't have time to reply to everyone individually tonight, but "work duty" calls ... sigh ... I wish reality and fantasy were reversed some days. ![]() Very much appreciation to all, /Kit |
