The Last Fairy Tale This is a tale most poets disdain, So full of words they often feign. Within each lie offered up to sell, Is a small truth we never tell. In our dim dreams it will always dwell. With misplaced muse and thoughts we toil, Waiting for some inner greatness to uncoil. Till our fairy tales rise on molted wing, Giving words and song for angels to sing, Spouting from our pens the fraud will fling. Build a stout cabin of truth for my soul, No empty mansion will make me whole, Trumpet your dreams from childhoods horn Let it ring in my ears all the hopes its born, While we discuss ancient times we mourn. No longer written are grand stories that last, The poets who wrote them are all in our past. One day perhaps we'll see rise a full sail, And a wandering child of the sea will regale, Some amazing adventure about a fantasy whale. Jamie Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. - Virgil. This is all too true and all too sad. I have mountains of books filled with poetry from Kahlil Gibran and Robert Frost and Elizabeth Browning to just name a few but I also have alot of the classic novels as well and I find it rare that any novel that comes out now comes close to the character and freshness of any of the antiquated writes. Wonderful subject to pen and beautifully done so. I too read it aloud and it flows masterfully. |

Oh Jamie...its so wonderful to find you here again...and while I do not compare anyone to Shakespeare or Hemingway...what we write you and I...is just as real just as valid...and in your case...just as beautiful as Romeo and Juliet...hugs sweet friend Life's a game...but who says you have to follow the rules? |

Well whales need stories to exist as do all fantasy creatures! Ring a bell if you believe in Whales before they are gone from memory. Prometheus, I so loved this... tales of high adventure written with style and italics. Write on Kethry Those of us who refuse to risk and grow get swallowed up by life. Patty Hansen. |

Much food for thought in what you write, and surely the inspiration for a great ballad of a whale. THank you for these wonderfully expressed truths. It might be well to ponder just what were missing in those classic piece of literature. Liz |

Thanks for the overwhelming "right on"..lol perhaps writers will follow the lead of the fashion industry and look to the past...if not there are a few here who could take the lead....again, thanks very much.
