The Secret Dream

Come hither to my secret place, a land of sleeping dreams
a hazy nether-world of childhood's spirited schemes,
a land of daily conquests, a place of parables come true,
come here and jubilee with me, just me and you, we two.

What is it now that you would wish that you would want to be
a maiden mostly beautiful, or visit your childhood tree?
Shhh, don't ever tell, but my most beloved of dreams
is when I'm dancing, dancing! for I am not then what I seem.

Now there I am, in age where beauty is just showing
slender and most nimble, soft and fragrantly glowing
dressed in softest of hues, I am rainbow's lovely friend
airily the gossamer moves as I shift and bend,

my arms raised high, to begin the slowest of slow swirls
the diaphanous skirt along my legs to gently rise and curl
arms above me in my reverie to the musical beat I sway;
in this fashion, I dance-sleep the quiet darkness away.

Bending, moving, swaying, I'm a ballerina's quest
for I've all the right strides, I'm floating among the rest,
a dip, bend, a sway, my skirts drift in the dream's soft wind
never tiring, I'm living for the dance, and then I live again

through the darkening misty shadows comes the loving man
he'll dance with me, and gliding, softly guide my devoted hand
and for a dance's eternity we are one in the dream's wind
never tiring, we're living for the dance, and then we dance again

among all the mystic colors and rainbow hues of dream
amidst all the musical tones the fading slowly begins
and serenely my skirts, then feet, come to a halting stop
the music now fades to gone, my arms to my sides then drop.

This part of the dream is the leaving time, I shyly now look behind
where the slippers were, and the rainbow dress of mine,
but little sadness in knowing smile of 90 years is there
as another night is before me, when I'm left in my gliding chair.

I don't think there is anything in life that can compare to our childhood dreams and how much joy they gave us...I'm gonna stop having them as soon as I grow up!

Perfectly penned again, poetic persona

Sven, should we all have these dreams at 90....thank you...

Thank you Deb...

'Deer, someday, perhaps when I retire, I am going to visit retirement homes, and believe in the dreams of the old, and tell them that the visions they have of the days of long gone are so very real...so let me know your address and I shall come visit you...of course, that is if you quit having a childhood...

Kit...not my entire memories, just yet...but probably will be, when the time comes...

What a beautiful bit of writing this is! I was roaming and the title caught me and I had to have a look. The dream is beautiful but the writing surely makes it that way..... ethome

Kari love, when I grow up, I'm going to be just like you love.   (Not that I can see it happening, well not until I learn some common sense love.) When will I ever look before I leap. Never mind, one day, I'll be older and lots wiser and can give it out to all and sundry. Who is this sundry who's always seeking advice anyway?
This is absolutely truly wonderful. I love it, as I always do, and I love these poems that I've never seen before, so I'm glad you're bringing them back. That gives me a chance to add them to my library, too.

Recently I read "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks - this reminded me how much I loved it. If you haven't - I hope you read it too - this convinces me once again you're my kind of people
