I’m a messed up individual
I don’t have a place to begin
You see I don’t have siblings
No nutty folk to call kin

I’m an only child
Of an only child
Of an only child
My temper is wild!

You see it’s a shame
When your dolls have names
You’re a twelve-year old boy and you still gottem
So estatic they’re signed all on their bottoms

Monopoly and twister
With no brother or sister
Who spins the board?
Whose hand’s on blue?
Who gets to be banker?
Who gets to be shoe!
Who really is winning?
When it’s me against you!
I guess I’ll be spinning
What else can I do!

My baseball and glove
Ball drops from above
No umpire will doubt
He’s safe! He’s out!
Really quite eerie
I won the World Series
What else to make up?
Slapshot from the hole
Now the Stanley cup!
Then the Superbowl!

But then there is Christmas
When I run to the tree
There isn’t a mix up
All the gifts are for me!

Every race I’ve entered
I’m the winner-to-be
I’m so self-centered
When it’s me against me!

I never drove a kid sister up to the mall
Not knowing her any, I haven’t missed her at all
My big brother never took me to show and tell
Matter of fact I think I’ve turned out quite well

See here is the problem it’s been mounting for years
My wife has a sister and several cousins as peers
And I must be cordial when they come over to stay
When they get on my nerves I can’t hide and go play

I bring out the monopoly and I bring out the twister
My wife rolls her eyes and the laughs from her sister
An only child makes social disaster somehow
So I phone my mother, “Make me a sibling right now!”

Ever tried to play scrabble or ludo by yourself? It's not fun looking back...HAHAHAHAA

But yes - christmas pressies...I'd FORCE Mum out of bed at 6am - and then she would FORCE me in turn to eat toast and have a hot drink for breakfast before I could open all those presents...lol

Mothers ~grumble~

I once ate dry toast I remember haha

(Oh and I am ALWAYS the boot in monopoly - because I boot people off the board when I go past them heh...)

Very cute, walt!  No, I'm not an only child, but I really enjoyed it anyway!

I'm not technically an only child, but all my siblings are over 14 years older than me. The poem works, though. After my sister moved out, I didn't have any mix up in the presents!!

Okay, so I'm a BRAT!! I have several siblings. I guess I can see the advantages to both situations, though I wouldn't give them up!! Delightful poem, Walt!!

If I had been your mother I would not have had any more children either. This is one of my favorites Walt. Love you.

I'm the proverbial middle child.. ya know .. the one your parents forget that they have???... Even my birthday was forgotten... cuz everyone else's was near Xmas - so they had to pay special attention to them.. nope - mine's in May... nothing special about that... Monopoly? Twister?... Scrabble?.. nobody will play with me... they say it's no fun cuz of the words I use... What was my name again?????......

Walt, I hope you solved this problem by having a houseful of children. There is no sense in continuing the single child syndrome. By the way, I think you are still being spoilt by your wife!!

Walt,
I stand with Nan on this one, I was the proverbial middle child three times in a row. But I like this poem and I can see where Twister would be a problem.
Funny thing is even with sibs there were still times I'd play me against me and I'd always win.

I am an only too so I can REALLY relate.
Ups everything is yours and you don't have to share!! LOL
Downs - bathtime, when all the other kids went home.
Generally I didn't mind it too much, though I might have been a smidge needy friend wise you know??
But I found my bio families and now have 3 sisters and a brother, so I've more than made up for it LOL
Great read Walt
