it was laffin
the way the kids spoke with drawls
that learned magic markers
and grew into scrawls

it was laffin
the way that the bus-stop read
that Terry shagged Lizzy
but never slept in her bed

it was laffin
that scouse got a stereo-type
for stealing cars
and a criminal life

and it was laffin
they way our leaders cut tax
to win another election
but couldn't fix broken backs
