If Not for Tears

What is this sorrow but a falling tear
That washes heartache onto pleasure’s face
And opens windows to the halls of fear
That all may gaze into this inner place

If not for eyes to look the other way
If not for tears to overflow at will
Then sorrow would be hidden from display
In canyons of the silent brewing still

But sentiments come pouring out with ease
And winds of dark will always come and go
Until the waters of the oceans cease
The rhythm of their constant ebb and flow

If not for tears, our hearts would never prime
What’s hidden in the deepest wells of time

Beautiful Liz ... I found these words very thought-provoking. Tears are indeed like a looking glass into our souls. Thank goodness for the release they bring. This is just lovely my friend.

Best wishes and hugs to you and your family on this holiday,
Luv Kit

Some say men shouldn't cry but I've never been ashamed of it...a real touching movie that's very well done will bring a tear to my eye. There is so much wisdom in this sonnet Elizabeth I love the way it starts....
"What is sorrow but a falling tear
That washes heartache onto pleasure's face."
That's a grand entrance!
And this is a grand exit!
"If not for tears, our hearts would never prime
What's hidden in the deepest wells of time."
Truly remarkable writing dear poet lady truly remarkable!!

It is a fine sonnet, in form and emotion and very expressive, Elizabeth.

Ah, Liz, This sonnet is a masterpiece! I feel the heartache in the words and weep with you. Love, Ellie
