*A note of explanation. I have a dear friend who sometimes gives me a challenge phrase to use to write a poem. Yesterday, he gave me "she hid in the shadows of the giants". I thought and thought and suddenly, this poem was written. I dedicate it to all those who think their work is not worthy to be here, for I feel that way myself. Passions has an incredible roster of writers and I am so glad to stand here 'in the shadows of the giants'! This is dedicated to all of you - each member - you are all giants in my eyes. She hid in the shadows of the giants who wrote images with such ease She labored to pen her poetry trying hard to always please Simple phrases, simple rhymes no fancy words did she impart This simple poet could only write from the depth of her simple heart Magnificent words abounding Twenty times ten amassed in this place offerings of such distinction they put tears on her envious face As each poet stepped into the light to proclaim their poem most unique She remained in their shadows holding back, she did not speak. Within this shadow of greatness she shields her weary eyes and feels breath of those who write the words that evoke such sighs Rejoice in the words of the giants Always give them their glory due but leave room for the simple words for they are important too. |

Simple phrases, simple rhymes no fancy words did she impart This simple poet could only write from the depth of her simple heart The best words come from one's heart. And a heart like yours it just don't get any better than that! This is fantastic Sharon! For you've written from me too. <*\\\>< I know not what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future. I don't question YOUR existance - GOD |

quote: That is how I write. Most of the time, I find it difficult to write anything else if it doesn't come straight from the heart! I adore this piece Sharon! And yes, there are MANY fantastic poets here at Passions, and in my book, you're one of them! ~Sheri "The things that come to those that wait may be the things left by those who got there first" |

You all look pretty tall to me. Craig Your biggest (smaller) fan. Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool: But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet. |

PdV, I really like this one. Very well said. There is a ton of wonderful poetry out there just waiting to be discovered. LW Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

Sharon, I've always said the true measure of any poem is the sincerity behind it - the feeling that went into writing it if you will. I could write perfect poetry all day long according to some people's poetic standards but what good would that be if no "feelings" were conveyed to the readers. Good poetry starts in the heart, not in iambics or meter or syllable counts and I will be the first to say there are MANY MANY great poets here, yourself included... Wonderful poem, btw. Michael |

Sharon - Bal said it exactly (we're agreeing too often here Mike...) Your heart is one of the things which kept me coming back here and turned this into a home rather than a visit. You rock lady (and roll too! ) |

This is excellent. . . and surely must also stand with all of the other "giants". . . ------------------------------------------------------ That which gives light must endure burning --Victor Frankl |

Once again you have shown that great poems come not from strength of words, but from the strength of heart. The greatest are those whose strength carries up the most hearts by the attraction of their own. You are one of those giants. Jamie Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. - Virgil. "Yield thou not to adversity, but press on the more bravely". |
