Coming Home

The sun has fallen round and ripe,
turned the sky to olive and pimento,
then gone to pot liquor,
now chilled in the fabric of cold hands
lighting fires from the yards of summer,
the neighborhood takes on the fragrance
of burning wood,
apple, cedar, pine.

The lane is lit
and swaths the gardens in magic,
and I can hear the piano
although no one plays it.

The sounds from the kitchen are music,
the knife cuts a perfect note
and the glass and silverware sing.

So tender is the love that surrounds,
as a fragile paw clicks across the tile
I breathe in my lingering chaos
and blow it out where it disappears
into the opening where love abides,

and this is coming home.

Martie--I could feel that "finally home" relief as I read, and I've been home all night! Another beauty from you! You bring me "there", everytime...

"I breathe in my lingering chaos

No one can phrase things quite so tellingly and beautifully as you can.

Martie my friend..........how could I not read it.  I may be slow in getting here sometimes but rest assured, ALL of yours get read by me and usually quite a few times.  Yes, coming home is very special and this year I have that pleasure to do so and you have made it even more special with this wonderful verse and your wonderful friendship. I cherish you and love you to death my friend so I am sending you loads of hugs and kisses just because and I don't need a holiday to do that either.

This is a beautiful piece. There is nothing like coming home, is there? Thanks for sharing.

the hands of he and the promise that s/he is blessed among women".
