Where no tyranny is tolerable

0 posted 2000-12-16 10:36 PM

My friend takes to the "hospital,"
the "cancer ward"
to meet a "patient" named "bill."
His diseased voicebox
had been taken out,
but they gave him an electric one.
"bill" talks to us
in robot monotone
but speaks coherently and well.

Then the "patient," "Bill," has an "attack"
though it isn't clear of what ... by whom ...
The nurses come
and say they have to "blow him up."
(They have to WHAT? ...)
Medical jargon.
It means that he needs help to breath.
The doctors confer,
decide he is too weak for the procedure;
so they just "blow him up" halfway.

I hear an auto dealership commercial.
It is for selling jeeps.
You are to be seized
by an uncontrollable urge to buy a jeep,
then kill yourself by crashing it.
To drive the message home
there was a jingle that said:
I wanna jump in a jeep and I die ...
I wanna jump in a jeep and I die ...

Then I awake,
laughing so hard I can not stop.
And for a while
I went wandering round the house
singing, humming to myself
the jingle of the dream.
The sound of the words ...
How irresistibly silly ...
I just couldn't help myself ...
I wanna jump in a jeep
I wanna jump in a jeep
... I wanna ... ...
Well, I live alone
so I am sure no one else heard me ...
(did they?)

And sometimes I'm afraid
I will run out of things to write about;
and perhaps this is scrapping
the bottom of the barrel.
But perhaps as long as I keep dreaming
there will always
be something more to say,
something more to laugh about,
something else to wonder at,
something new to share.
and maybe, just maybe,
one more reason
to live
and to be happy.

Jaime - I had to chuckle when I read this piece.  You can indeed write about anything at all.  I've written about everything from the most profound thoughts I could muster to the simple fact I didn't want to take out the trash.

Keep on writing and we'll keep on reading.  I'm not sure if your having the URL for your poems helps, but I'll email it to you anyway..

Happy Holidays, my friend..

Jaime as long as those dreams keep coming you'll have lots to write about ...and like a poem I wrote one time called 'Out of Time' there is a passage in there that states "people don't run out of dreams they just run out of time."  Write on! I really enjoy reading your work!
Well I have to go now...I'm going to run up and down the street and try to find a Jeep to jump into....just like the idea!!
