"So, have you ever shot the head off a rose?" - No. Have you? "No, I haven't. My god, what's wrong with us?" *** The man entered Taco Bell and tried to sell us a keychain from his backpack. I looked at the cars traveling on the road, pushed through the spokes of his bike leaning against the glass case of the restaurant. Streaks of spastic color. The man went to a table and assured the woman there he had one with god's face. He pulled out one with a baseball, one with a penguin and one with an oversized postage stamp. You see, god is in everything, so he had many of his eyes to show her. *** After she took off her clothes, I sat trembling. "What's wrong, Mike?" - Nothing. "No, really? What's wrong?" Many times I had imagined what her breasts looked like, and now here they were. I'll let you imagine now that I don't need to. *** I watched the couple for a moment, as she slid her hands into the back of his jeans and he ground into her. There was no point of clothing then. And yet I turned my head, as if this was something no one should see. *** "Have you ever picked a rose before?" she asked. - No, but I held a dead one in my hands at work yesterday. I even wrote a poem about it. Do you wanna see it? She read it and then let it lay on the bed. I didn't look at her or the sunlight on her as she said "My god, what's wrong with us?" |

I really liked this one a lot Mike and I could tell you what I think about it but...."I'll let you imagine now that I don't need to." |

This is my 2600 something reply and I've never had a harsh word to say about anyone's words but frankly, this ...never mind, maybe everyone reads something different, it just brought a sadness and shame to me. ethome: Butterfly Slippers, I love your turn of phrase there -- "this one lets me walk barefoot in it." E me sometime, huh? I hate falling out of touch, you poet, you. Irish Rose, I have no idea why it would, but I can't apologize for words. Thanks for reading, though. Mike |

No, I wasn't wanting an apology! The writing is powerful, it affects people, it affected me, everyone reacts differently, the images made me think of the evening news, death, and pain. Like I said, my reaction is different than others... "Always be a first rate version of your self instead of a second rate version of someone else." Marilyn Monroe |

"my god, what's wrong with us?" Mike, you have an honesty about your work, and it is something that I, for one, have always appreciated. You sort of take the wrappings off of the psyche, no ribbons, no bows, just "here it is". And try as you might? That's always going to make some people uncomfortable. I loved this poignant piece. To me it spoke of disillusionment, loss of innocence, and the shaking of a foundation of faith. Quite a lot to think about, hmmm? You're awesome, my friend. |
