How curious it's named Pacific The sea that meets our western coast Pacify, pacific -conveys peace Calm and calming, smooth like grease Curious as I saw it beating On rocks and sand so rough Salt spray arising in the air Feeling all the danger there Cross currents whipping foam so white Turning all the shore to blight Just like a blender, churning round But without that whirring sound The sun shone on this sea so vast It whispered to me there Roiling through the rocks and sand Inspiring feelings too long bland I wondered how its dark blue palette Could shift to verdant shades of green And lay in tranquil pools of turquoise As if to say "Come see my poise " I walked the beach as a tamer Listening to this lion's roar No whip or chair I gave distance As it clawed the weedy shore Warm the sunshine yet chill the air Life loved I, just standing there I listened to the seals bark The gulls flew on without hark All that I lacked within this scene Could be summed up amidst this green Was you fingers clasping mine Needing no more to feel divine I crossed our country thus to see The wonders of this great, vast sea Without the joy of your warm arms And yet I felt no sad alarms For you are with me here or there You have banished all my care My Atlantic may just have sighs Without seals’ soft brown eyes Pacific pacified, make no mistake Watching all those tall waves break Whales breeching, Dolphins too Still holding your love, strong and true There are places inside our souls - that have never been touched. There are places inside our hearts - that need to be loved this much. ~Janet Mar |

There is a place I once stood on the beach in robed hood heard the waves break, calling me calling loudly...Karilea Love it Mr. Yeats....I can smell the air once again... thank you for the memory... Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

Bill--The Pacific has so many faces, I especially love the one you saw...you took me there again with your words, for it is a breathtaking ocean to watch...and the Samoa that Sea talks about is wonderful too...as is beautiful and rolling San Clamente...gosh, I guess I could write a poem, but I loved yours! |

Awe Bill, I think I may have changed one word "poise" to "prose." I think of the Narrow's Bridge and the currants. I've watch boats go in circles ther for hours trying to make the passage. You've told it well... Guess you been around. Good work work my friend. PS. I had to add this edit... did you miss the rain..? LOL dale [This message has been edited by lucky (edited 12-04-2000).] |

Everyone - This was not my first visit to the Pacific Shore - and I sincerely hope not my last - I have seen it from San Diego to Washington as well - But this time it stood out as remembrances of the Olympic coast were rainy and overcast and the rugged rocky quality that the Monterrey area could mix with seals, beach and sunny color was too 'poetic' to bypass. I'm sincerely appreciative of your sweet words - truly most grateful. ( I will confess amonuting desire to visit Eureka now tho' ![]() |
