Summer Evening Vermilion skies are mellowing Above the Warbler’s yellow wing Wooded hills, a thousand trees Swaying in the evening breeze Down sweeping field through windblown grass To spring fed pond’s transparent glass On the bank I sit and gaze The depth of pond through crystal glaze Water spiders walk across Silent frog on bed of moss Water from a natural spout Tadpole tails and rainbow trout Little creek that never stops Crayfish hide ‘neath granite rocks Sun has slipped behind the hill Gone is song of whippoorwill Evening coolness, darkened hues Waters turn to cobalt blues The time has passed to linger there The moment’s gone, I know not where Firefly winks and tree frog sings In harmony with cricket rings Starling flock ‘gainst purple sky Descends to wooded perch nearby It’s time to safely occupy Night’s resting place - And so must I Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 10-06-2000).] |

All it lacks is Beethoven's 6th symphony playing in the background! - the words, the rhymes, the flow, the colors, all contribute to the great beauty of this idyllic scene you've created |

Great work, Liz, thoroughly enjoyed it... - James The beauty of nature is displayed, not through itself, but through the creatures dwelling within its bosom. |

Makes me think of a picture i have of my son when he was little sitting by the pond with a fishing rod in his hand..the flash of the camera looked as though he was showered by stars..loved it Elizabeth. A poem is never finished, only abandoned. - Paul Valery (1871-1945) |

You take me back to all the nights I spent on my grandpas' farm...wandering the woods and playing by the lake under those glorious stars |
