the rain falls outside his window
here in the heart of the city
beating rhythmically against the awning
almost in time with the beating
of his heart
     the thunder echoes its rumble
          in his soul

he thinks about friends
he wonders if he has any left
they all seem to be leaving
        for one reason or another
perhaps he held on to them too tightly
perhaps he cared about them too much
he knows that he can do that
they're moving on with their lives
     while his remains stagnant
          they say they understand
but do they?

the thunder speaks again
reflecting the turmoil in his heart
how much more hurt must he endure?

the rain beats a little harder now
the wind has picked up
he knew it wouldn't be easy
        but not like this
it's Friday night here in the heart of the city

the rain continues to fall. . .

Sven, this is so full of emotion and feeling. But what can one expect from a guy with a heart as large as yours. Wonderful poem.

What an emotional poem.  I love it.  The loss of friends males the whole process of moving on, much, much harder.
