Festoonery Aunt May painted the cottage buttercup yellow the day after Uncle Bob’s funeral, after the cold cuts and guests were gone, with one large brush and a ladder in a pair of his overalls, pant legs cuffed. Now, terra cotta pots overflow with marguerites, in her garden - azaleas in place of early girls and better boys. Bob had hated azaleas. No more avocado appliances or brown shag carpet, frugal past white washed, his gun collection donated except the one under her bed, just in case. No somber hues of mourning, Instead, a metamorphosis, painted lady discovering velocity free to swing dance on Saturday nights. © 2000 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (edited 10-04-2000).] |

I needed a "Corinne" moment this morning and I found this! I love the rich imagery and the expression. It shines. "When red-haired girls scamper like roses over the rain-green grass, and the sun drips honey."" Laurie Lee Kathleen |
