The Troll 'Neath an old oaken bridge, near the banks of a brook. Lived a green and grizzled Troll, whom from the bridge, toll took. Each day he'd wait, rain or clear, for some to pass his way. Princess, waif, or lonely goat, each would have to pay. On Monday came a wily wolf, who growled, "No toll from me!” Troll tapped him twice with his old pipe, Wily Wolf became a tree. Tuesday brought a poor old woman, who asked, "Might I rest by your brook?” Troll gave her passage down to his bank, after first, the toll he took. Wednesday came a boy playing pipe, it's whistle sweet and gay. Troll turned him into a gentle wind, to sing to Troll each day. Thursday was a large pink pig, flying a large pink kite. Troll turned her into a large mushroom, something soft to sleep on at night. Friday brought a gaggle of geese, who all were on their way, Down to the cool waters below, Troll took from each his pay. Saturday broke to the baa-baa of sheep, who woke Troll with a start. Each was turned into a cloud, when from Troll they tried to depart. Sunday Troll rested 'neath his tree, on his mushroom pillow, he slept. the gentle wind blew cool and sweet, while across the sky, clouds crept. Troll thought to himself, "What a life I have," "taking toll come every new day." "I wouldn't change a single thing," "I'm happiest this way." "Some visitors go, some they stay," "like my pillow, the clouds, and my breeze." "And my oaken bridge is a wonderful home," "yes, my life is just as I please." Troll lived on for many years, down by the bridge and the brook. And happier he never was, as when the toll he took. And this would be my 100th post. Thank you! Shooting for a little versatility here. And, after 22 years of Dr. Suess, I'm ready to tell that cat just WHERE he can put his hat!! )) |

seraphin, congratulations on the hundreth, congratulations on the poem. Well done. I've never seen a story from the troll's point of view and you did this so well.
