How sad to have to say "Good-Bye."
Why don't we say "Sad-Bye"?
What "Good" is gained from letting go,
When hearts are yearning so?

So often loved ones separate
When touched by Hand of Fate;
To trek thenceforth divergent way
And share no common day.

Yet none can see the road ahead;
"Good" lies within their stead.
Some future day perhaps by chance
Paths cross by happenstance.

Each passage then has much to tell -
Best wish our loved ones well.
When hearts are true there's no "Sad-Bye"
Sincerity's "GOOD-Bye."

Nan,

This was so nifty!!  I love the flow.  You have taken a often sad occasion and gave it a happy twist.  Nice work!!

Thanks, guys.... I don't think I'd call this one of my best, but I had to meet my own classroom challenge today - My kids had to write a poem about saying "Good-Bye"...

Hello Nan...
I am ditto-ing all the replies above me, and adding this...
In the gypsy culture of my ancestors there was a spiritual belief that good-bye did not exist.  The belief is still valid, in that strong ties that once were, will complete a full circle, and the two souls will be reunited...if not in this plane, on the next level. Your third verse says the same, and it's a comfort to know:
      "We'll meet again".......
I truly loved this poem....and your style!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

Beautiful poem NAn, I hate saying goodbye, I prefer "until we meet again." saying farewell is never good.

Well now look...even goodbyes bring good lessons...

and I shall remember this, and have it reposted, shall I ever quit the bluest halls of Passion [probably a long time in coming...]

and Nan, while admittedly from you "not one of [your] best", you still wield well...

Wonderful Nan! I loved your thoughts in this, so sad are goodbyes, but with sincerity, our good intentions bring the meaning through. Loved the way your portrayed this!

Best wishes,

Nan - I really like the way you moved from the loss to the wish in this poem.  I think I understand this poem as you inended it - The 'good' in goodbye is not meant to portray emotions, but instead is meant as a wish for happiness and safety for the person(s) who are departing, as in 'good luck.'  I really like the way you presented this lesson.  As always, you are a wonderful teacher.

And another lesson well taught as the student poets rejoice in having actually grown in the wisdom in another verse from one of our leaders of guidance.  Well written and lesson taken with smiles.

Nan, I really, really like this one. P'raps it's from my way of never saying good-bye if I can at all help it. Usually, I stick with TTYL...

Til next, Miss Nanners....ttyl.

If I were any more laid back, I'd be in a coma.

I really liked this piece a lot. This one sort of weaved itself. Goodbyes are very hard but I thought it was very clever how you turned such a sad subject into something positive. Take care.

Nan
With many poets saying good bye to Passions recently, I thought this was totally appropriate.  There is nothing pleasant about saying or receiving a good-bye.
You said this wasn't your best work in one of your responses, but I loved it. Nothing pleasant about good-byes.

Can't add anything new to all that has been said. I'll just add my agreement that I love how you turned a sad subject into a happy one and loved the flow of this.
