So close.. but so far away
over the cobblestone bridge
from your capecod on the bay
I wish i could call you
but hear you found another
maybe i should not have come
afraid to dial your number
i want to hear your voice
your voice  say hello
What if she answers ?
i know my tears will flow

What would you say
if you knew i am across the bay?
standing beneath a lantern
under midnight skies of grey

Standing in the rain
your picture in my hand
i know this is silly
but your memory i cannot band

Maybe if you knew..
i am just across the bay
you will tell me you love me
and beg me to stay

I heard you walk
your German sheperd
the same time every night
maybe you will remember me
in the midnight lantern light
and remember the nights
under the moonlit skies
when you held me in your arms
not wanting to say good bye

I think i see you
your shadowy figure
walking across the bridge
yes..yes i do..
walking closer..closer...
in the violet fog hue

I know it is you
your shamble walk
is just the same..
i will pretend i dont know you
in the aura of this lantern flame

You smile and walk by
my tears start to flow
my heart says good bye
"oh NO.. Wait..DONT GO"

You stop and turn around
you walk closer to me
closer.. my heart pounds
i say "yes it is me"

Your sapphire eyes
look into mine
while memories
of our love..
rewind back in time

"You should have been mine" you say
as you take my hand
searching my finger
for a gold wedding band

In the midnight rain
the memory of your kiss
upon my lips in the night
rekindles our love
beneath the lantern light

The rain drizzles down
upon the cobblestone bridge
just like back then
across from your capecod
if only for a moment
you are mine once again

Victoria, this is very well done...
your imagery is so well written I could feel the rain and hear the sounds of the cobblestones...
excellent work
take care

Victoria I love this story...reminds me of one of my own that I was attempting to write...however mine does not have a happy ending...always admire someone that musters up the strength to try again to save beautiful moments in their life...James
