"Strongest Men"

When day's been long
grown cruel and cold
and when the world
has brought you low
come lay your weary
head to me, my love

We'll watch the fire
and hear its hiss
and talk about
the coming snow
and wonder wish
and name the stars above

For little boys
still need to know
that even strongest
men can cry
and strongest men
still need a tender touch

And when you come
with weary mind
I'll pull you close
in loving's fold
and give you what
you've come to need so much

I loved it. Men are strong but those that know how to cry are stongest of them all.

Rainydays,

Fabulous look at what makes a real man . . . one who is not afraid of showing his emotions or saying what he feels.  I love this one!

a very special friend has shown me that even the strongest men can cry and be held when they trust us in this way.. and it brings us closer.

inot2B, thank you very much. I think it's up to us, really, to let them know that it's okay to be how"ever" they need to be, you know?

jwesley, thank you so much for reading and for letting me know that you recognize the truth, from a man's perspective.

Lone Wolf, thank you. Sometimes we just need to show them that it's okay.

Elizabeth, thank you very much! The truth is what makes me love them so.

Janet Marie, thank you. Yes, we all need to be able to have a special place to be ourselves. Where better than in the arms of a trusted friend?

Denise, I'm glad you enjoyed the tenderness here. Thank you very much for reading it!

My need for tender touch
Is one that I need so much
My need to love and share
To show my love that I care

Eyes filled with tears of today
Will come to rest as you hear me say
I will trust in you to hold me tight
As our love burns deeply into the night.

Lovely thoughts by you in this one my friend.  Very tender and very soothing to the soul to know that a love like this is possible somewhere out there.

Hugs to you.(Make sure you get rid of that flu totally before pushing on too hard)

James, hello. Yes, to know that you are understood and accepted for whatever depth of feeling that emerges and to be treated with gentle concern is important, I believe. After all, not only do men need to feel safe to open up, but women need to protect as well as feel protected, to nurture, to give of ourselves in tender ways. Thank you for reading this one, James.

Mark, more tender verse...and again I am smiling. Thank you for sharing your inspired writings. This is lovely! So nice to know that this poem moved you to write. Yes, I think love like this is possible, though not found nearly enough in our often cold world of strongly imposed stereotypical behaviour. Sometimes we simply have to relax and let ourselves "feel."   Take care, and thanks again for your sweet poetic response!  (and hugs back to you)
