The Ponderings of "Me"

I think back to the trials I've known,
And beg to understand ...
Is life just mere coincidence,
Or does it have a plan?

The cause and the effect of all
The tribulations past,
Appear to form a pattern
In this hierarchical map.

All this and more, I ponder,
As I struggle through the days,
To try to find the answers,
In this game of life I play.

Each action, every incident
From time that I was born,
Plays out upon the pages,
Of my life, this pensive morn.

If "they'd" not been my parents,
Would I be of different mind?
Would I be less or more than this,
How would I be defined?

If they'd not met, would I be here,
To question life as such?
Or would I not exist at all,
To feel, to live, to touch?

If I'd not known the friends I have,
Would I be someone else?
Without their kindred hearts I've shared,
Would I still be "myself"?

If I'd not known the heartache
I've encountered through this life,
Would lessons that I've learned from them
Have taken on new light?

If I'd not seen the happiness
I've relished over time,
Could I have crossed the hurdles,
And the mountains I have climbed?

If I'd not made the choices
That I did along the years,
Would I be who I am today,
Not who I "now" appear?

In looking back, I'm grateful for
Each happenstance I've known,
For though I could not see it "then",
Into my life, I've grown.

My ponderings have taught me
That I know not who I'd be,
Without each moment I have lived ...
I know not "who" you'd see.

/Kit McCallum

All I know is that I for one am glad that you are you and that is the one that I see.  Life does teach us things and all that happens in our lives as an affect on us and can determine much of what we become.  I would say that you have chosen the right paths in your life because there ain't no way you could have gotten to be so sweet otherwise.  Loved the write my friend.

Lots of wonderful thoughts here, and a great deal of depth. Good one, Kit

Kit, everything that happens to us in life - good, bad, happy, miserable or what-have-you are all small ingredients which serve to create this banquet we call our life and what we are.

In your case, you were created by a master chef who knew just what he was doing....because the finished product is extremely admirable.

Kit, this asks the questions I often ponder. You put it together so well.
I don't know what experiences created you, but I'm glad they did.

Kit this is wonderful, the questions, and without certain answers. Who'd would we be without the path to us. Beautifully written as always, I really love this.

Well said. But if we had the chance to change our lives, would we. Think for a moment. each action caused a reaction which led us to this very moment. would i be writing this now. would anyone be reading any of this? Fate has dealt each of us a hand, just a matter of how good a poker face you have, or how well you can slip that hidden card into your hand. or maybe it's all luck. who knows? Just play your hand and bet wisely.

I've thought the same things. Life is full of mystery, and there is no more puzzling mystery than 'I'. Loved your poem.

Much love all,

I can relate on this one too, pondering over the past...the why's and if's....but also growing stronger from the experience...
and now I try to count the blessings in my life.

you have expressed your feelings about it so well.....can find myself in it, and that brought a smile up.....
thanks for sharing this one.

I can definitely relate to this one too Kit, especially with the weight struggles I had in the past...I always said that even though at the time the constant ridicule was painful, I wouldn't be as strong as I am now if I hadn't gone through it.  Thought provoking piece my friend, I liked it!

I think many can relate to this Kit...even
my most horrid moments have molded me into who I am...in a heartbeat I would erase those times...but then who would I be...I
guess all we can really do is accept them
and move on to the next expierence.  Great
writing and much cause to pause~

Wow Kit, Wonderful poem!  Questions that have often crept in, answered beautifully...

Kit,
These are universal ponderings, but I'm sure many have come to the conclusion that there is a plan for our lives. We question at times, but we should not fret, but rather just live each day the best that we can. I feel so fortunate to have had the parents that I had.
Your poem is so well stated and so beautiful

~Mark:  I'm glad you enjoyed the write Mark, and thank your for the sweet words. I know I haven't made all the "right" decisions, but try I do.

~Kathleen:  Thanks Kathleen ... I was having one of my pensive mornings, full of questions, LOL! Thanks so much for reading!

~Balladeer:  You've summed this up beautifully Michael, and thank you so much for the Master Chef analogy ... hugs and many thanks to you!

~Serenity:  You too Serenity?  Funny how the mind lets us wander ... I was think of the "chicken and the egg" kind of thing, this was a fun one to write, thanks!

~Sandra:  Oh, that was sweet Sandra, thank you. And may I say ... you actually inspired this piece in a sense. I had just finished responding to you in, I think your "Feelings" post, and you got my mind wandering into these words. Thank you for both the inspiration, and this lovely comment! {{hugs}}

~Marsha:  Thanks so much Marsha ... and who would we be indeed, I love thinking this thoughts, they send my mind into a fun spin!

~Victoria:  Thank you Victoria, I'm glad you enjoyed, and I very much appreciate your comment!

~Ron:  "But if we had the chance to change our lives, would we?"  You've summed up many of the thoughts going through my mind Ron, thanks for the wonderful ponderings. I would not change a thing personally ... the events and contacts through our life, do all shape who we are, but its fun to wonder. Thanks again!

~AniKay:  Oh, I agree AniKay ... there's nothing more puzzling than "I". I liked the way you phrased that! Thanks so much!

~Charisma:  I'm glad you enjoyed and found some of your thoughts within this piece Charisma ... it's fun to wonder, isn't it? Thanks so much for the comments!

~Krista:  It's an interesting dilemma for the mind Krista, and your experiences have certainly shaped "you" into a most wonderful lady and poet, my friend. Thank you for these thoughts!

~Butterflies:  Thanks for these further ponderings Butterflies. I've often thought, "what if", but some of the more difficult chain of events led to some of the better times in my life, so I guess in retrospect, I wouldn't change things either. Thanks for enjoying!

~Bonnie:  They do tend to creep in now and again Bonnie ... guess I was in one of those moods, LOL! Thanks so much for your comments!

~Elizabeth:  I too, am so fortunate to have had my parents Liz. I couldn't have chosen better if God let me do it myself.  They are exceptional individuals, whose love, kindness and caring continue to warm my heart daily. Many thanks and hugs for these lovely thoughts.

Much appreciation to all,
/Kit

Kit--

you have first off written a simply
amazing and beautiful poem. secondly,
i believe you have written something
that ALL of us here at Passions can
certainly relate to. in my personal
opinion, all of the things we go
through in our lives, shape who we are
both the good and the bad. and though
we often wonder if things were different,
how would we be different...i think that
it is also important (as you have so
beautifully said) to remember that we
are who we are for a reason! take care.
i loved this poem!

'For though I could not see it "then",
Into my life, I've grown.'

And quite admirably so !

What a beautifully reflective render.
Provokes me to think ... I enjoy that.
You're sooooooo good at these pondering pieces.
Thank you for sharing.

~Denise:  Thanks so very much Denise ... I'm glad you enjoyed my ponderings!

~Amy: And what beautiful ponderings from you Amy! We are indeed who we are, for so many reasons. Each unique and special in our own ways, shaped by so many things surrounding us. Thanks Amy!

~Marge: Ahhh Marge ... a little wandering of the mind, ponderings for the soul ... glad you enjoyed the think! (Now see? There that little "ink of think" popping into my head again ... I told you it drops in unexpectedly, LOL!)

~Marcy:  Thanks so much Marcy ... it's great to just have fun with the possibilities sometimes, thank you!

Much appreciation to all,
/Kit
