Canyon Idyll

In visions ever so vivid
I see in my mind oh so clear
We'll travel through the Grand Canyon
Our boatman with great skill will steer

I'll show you the canyon's true beauty
How it can blaze full of color.
Varied hues to dazzle and hold you
Not like I will, I'm your "feller"

(my apologies  the pics are not available without visiting the site - to see the one I wanted to post here go to:  http://www.westernriver.com/navgrand.htm  )

This river that flows through the canyon
Walls rising so steep and so high
No words can speak of the wonder
You'll remember, you'll breathe a sigh

(my apologies  the pics are not available without visiting the site - to see the one I wanted to post here go to:
http:gcex.com )

On beaches we'll stop for side canyons
Where waterfalls greet every turn
Turquoise in shadings so glorious,
Pools where we'll swim and we'll learn

Birds and Sheep will watch our journey
How we'll love each other in bliss
Each day brings new vistas exciting
Each one we'll greet with a kiss.

Such highlights flooding right through us
No painter could find enough hues
Think of heaven laid out before you
When its' time and you've paid all your dues

Thrills wild are part of the trip too
The raft takes you through rapids high
That we're bounced and we're soaked to the skin
As we yell and think we must die

In the depths here, you'd never suspect
There are grottos, caverns and pools
Marble-like walls of deep travertine hue
Polished smooth by nature's own tools

Sandy beaches for eating and resting
Our life will take on a new cast
All our cares, all our pains leaving
We just know the trip cannot last

At Lake Mead we will have to get out
With regret then we'll board our bus
Totally rested and sun baked
But still filled with love and with lust

Off to Las Vegas we'll ride then
Our hotel offers comforts sublime
Hot Showers, Jacuzzis and soft beds
Oh, and we'll have a great time

It's my thought but I'd only be guessing
When it's time to leave airport's floor
You'll turn to me asking the question:
"Next year can we come back for more?"

We cannot tell what may happen to us in the strange medley of life.
But we can decide what happens in us... how we can take it, what we
can do with it.

Once visited there is no going back.  What a wonderful visit with you this early afternoon, and yes I do believe that the closest route to heaven is the one through nature's splendor.  Now, I see you are enjoying your crown and it looks mighty handsome on you my friend.

Dear Wilfred,
Only someone with appreciation of God's Beauty & it being of Him,  could pen something this beautiful. Awesome.

Made my vacation stink!!  Loved every line.

Mark -
I truly enjoy our banter - and the polishing of your crown ~G~ - and I tell you true - I could LIVE making continuous trips through the canyon at least 9 months of the year - truly one place I could return to.  thank you for trying to make the pictures appear directly.

Seymour-
From your perspective - you may have 'saved a trip' - from mine - I failed - in all my years on this earth - and all my travels (Carribbean, Europe North America) the one place I would return to in a heartbeat - without ANY stopping to think - is this- If you have the opportunity and miss it - It will be (JMHO) your loss

Marcy -
I thought I knew how to make web site pictures appear with my poetry - I did not consider that some may have restricted use - and unfortunately those I chose were restricted. You can see many beautiful river trip pictures if you visit the sites I edited into the poem to replace my errors.

Bill--The Grand Canyon is truly a magnificant wonder...I have only seen it from the top, where it is more like a painting then real, in its beauty...I would love to see it in the intimate way that you have.  Lovely word painting!

Martie - seeing it from the rim - is also a limiting experience in that people do not stay long - They miss the color changes of sunsets or sunrises - or never see it filled like a bowl of clouds - and certainly never see the waterfalls - or wildlife - Thank you
