I wonder where you are now
Years have been and vanished
Your youthfulness and beauty
I have never forgotten

I sit here watching time go by
Closing today, I open yesterday
You and I, running free
Hopping from fence to rocks
Into the long grasses we disappeared

Oh! Your beautiful hair flowing
Freely as you try to outrun me
Nearby the stream, hands in hands
We sit and make promises
If we only knew we could not keep

Times shared, times treasured
Oh! I loved you and you me
We never cried, so much in love
Only eight we were, but we had each other
That little white flower you gave me
Lives in my heart.
Wherever you are, we have never been apart.

Oh, tender tears trickling.  I was eleven when I first fell in love.  It's been a long road, but we're together today, and now forever.  And all through the years, in times of being physically apart, my heart has whispered your line "Wherever you are, we have never been apart."

This is a lovely poem, filled with beautiful images.  I can see her, see you both, feel the innocent joy!  Thank you for sharing!

JD~
Most, most lovely.

The memories gathered are meant to be remembered ... for always.

'Years have been and vanished'
But the memories are for the keeping.

I'm glad you shared these beautiful thoughts.

I had a relationship like this... except I was five at the time     . Oh, Daniel, this is just so darling. A beauty even without the delightful "surprise" admission of age.

Daniel, this is a beautiful poem. The closest I came to falling in love at a tender age was gazing worshipfully at the man who ran our tuck shop. (Very sheltered life I led, with 5 sisters, going to an all girls school and taught by nuns, there weren't that many opportunities.) But I really did like this
Take care

I fell in love in fifth grade.  As boys that age tend to do, he teased me by stealing my shoe.  He and another boy played catch with it.  I told the teacher...they ended up getting paddled...end of my fifth grade romance.  This is a sweet poem that brings back memories....

Shunshine
I am so glad I was able to write this poem. Somewhere out there is a beautiful person who shares those memories. I wish for only once we could meet again.

Charisma,
Thank you for the sweet words. It is never easy at times when these experiences resurface particularly when the need to be close to someone's heart seems eons away.

SEA,
Thank you kindly, experiences as such, are treasures to keep.

Poet's Sister,
I am so thrilled to read about your Grade 5 experience, funny how you remember these instances.

Simply lovely Daniel! What a sweet and tender portrait you've painted with these words. And might I add, that I adored this line ... "Closing today, I open yesterday" ... wonderful!

Best wishes,

Daniel, this is such a sensory-rich poem. Sentimental and emotional, it captures perfectly the innocence and purity of youth and wonderment as well as the power of memory. Just lovely, and I thank you!

Thank you BloomingRose,
I feel the poems as I write them and it is so good to know that this comes through. We may look at a great painting and see the meaning of the artist but the poet does not just allow us to see words, he/she wants us to feel every emotion, every word, into our heart.
