After sending a note to Nancy Ness, and receiving such a lovely response, she encouraged me to post something to get me started (a little shy).

I just registered as a member in the forums, but have been a "resident poet" since March 13/1999, and a frequent visitor to Ron's site.  Unfortunately, due to "very little time" I've never been able to get into the forums previously and interact, but I'm hoping to spend some time here in the upcoming months. I've seen you all grow and watched from a distance for a long time, though am shy to admit, merely been an admirer more than an active participant.  I've enjoyed MANY of your poems.

Poetry has been my only "sanity saving device" for years.  You all look like you have a lot of fun here ... hopefully I can join in and read and share some more soon. I look forward to chatting with you!

This is my first poem post to the forum ... I was asked to write and read a poem at my brother-in-laws upcoming wedding and am a little nervous ... comments will be appreciated!

Wedding Poem – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

  Cherished are the memories that
      Brought us to this day,
  For yesterday, was just a “dream” …
      A “wish” to contemplate.

   A fantasy where in my mind,
      A fleeting glimpse I’d see …
  A vision of the true desires
      I longed for endlessly.

  And when I dreamed, I did not know
      The love I’d feel today;
  The height of my true feelings,
     And the depths they would portray.

  And if I had one wish today,
      A simple wish t’would be …
  Is that the love we feel this moment,
      Lasts eternally.

  Reality has merged now
      As you stand here by my side;
  And as I join your hand in mine,
      My heart does fill with pride.

  For as I pledge my love to you,
     I see in many ways,
  Reflections of my love for you
     Are mirrored in your gaze.

  And by our presence here today,
      And for the love we share,
  I thank you for our yesterdays
      That brought us to be here.

  But more than this, I vow to you,
      My wishes yet to come …
  Tomorrow’s dreams and fantasies,
      This day that we are one.

  Tomorrow’s an adventure
      That we’ll share together now;
  Our future’s intertwined forever,
      Through this holy vow.

  I promise to remember
     In the future years and days,
  The love I feel for you this moment …
     … Dreams fulfilled today.

  For in the coming years as we
      Move on, and reminisce,
  Back to the day I stood with you
      And promised with a kiss …

  That blessed are the days that
     I have looked into your eyes,
  And felt the warmth and love reflect,
      The essence of our lives.

  *****

  “Yesterday” we dreamed of what might be;
     “Today” we validate our love;
        And “tomorrow” we will cherish the life we have shared as one.

This is absolutely WONDERFUL, Kit...

It's just great to see you here - and for all of the great poets posting with Passions to know that their work is being appreciated by folks who might not be visible to them.

I absolutely LOVE the poem - it's superb... as a matter of fact - check your email for a very special greeting...

Kit, this is absolutely beautiful! I'm sure the couple and the guests will enjoy it immensely! Both my daughters got married this previous year. I also wrote them each a poem, but was not able to read them at the ceremonies (each guest received a copy though, rolled up with a ribbon around it), I wish now that I had found the courage to do so, but I have never been a 'public' speaker. I admire that you plan to recite this at the wedding. Welcome to the Forums, Kit! So glad that you have finally decided to actively participate!

Hey Kit,

You visited this place as a tourist visited places,
You read our poems like the visitor sees sights,
Now that you've decided to be one amongst the attractions,
Now, may we have the pleasure to be the tourists!!!

Keep writing, and WELCOME...

By the way, great first post!!! thoroughly enjoyed it.

regards,
sudhir.

The next-best thing is the wrong thing,
And the worst thing you can do is nothing.

I must say that I enjoyed this a lot, it was so very sweet and well written.  You did an incredible job of making it all come together with perfect meter and flow, and a simple rhyme scheme in contrast.
Very impressive work here, Kit.  You are destined to be something great, as everyone has already mentioned.
Welcome to Passions in Poetry.  I look forward to seeing you read, reply and share with the rest of us here in this family!
