Author's Note: This poem was written for my brother, Kirk, who died of a heart attack at the age of 44. Husker Du? (Do You Remember?) Remember When you and I used to have squirt-gun fights On our front lawn On bright summer days? Remember When we used to tie my wagon to the back of my tricycle And you would sit in the wagon And push yourself along with your hands as I rode my tricycle, Allowing me to believe that I was pulling you? Remember When you helped me to learn to ride a bicycle - How you held on to the bike and pushed, And then released it, to watch me ride a few feet before falling over? And remember How patient you were In picking me up each time and loving away the hurt Of scraped knees and wounded pride? And, when I finally gained the skill and confidence To ride on my own, Remember how proud you were of me? Remember the nights When Dad and I came over to your house, And the three of us all went swimming In the pool, out back? Remember When you and your family lived in Missouri, And we came to visit you? Remember That, while we were there, I wanted to go roller-skating, And you went with me, So that I wouldn't have to be alone? Remember, Throughout your life, How you shared your time with me selflessly, Asking nothing in return? Kirk, you gave me all of these wonderful memories - And, in doing so, left me a part of yourself That will always remain with me. I know that no man was ever loved more by his brother; And I want you to remember one thing more, throughout eternity - That I love you. -Troy J. Troy~ A beautiful slice of your heart. How fortunate that you have so many loving memories of Kirk. Brought tears of remberance to this lady who didn't have enough days with my little brother ... taken at the age of 34 in an auto accident. Thank God for the memories. *HUGS* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Troy, now that I can see through the tears, I just wanted you to know that this touched my heart deeply. What wonderful memories of a cherished brother. He must have been a great person to deserve such a beautiful tribute. Poetry~ Words falling on paper, painting a dream. Shawna R. Holder Boise, Idaho |

Wow! What beautiful responses you all gave! I thank you all! Balladeer - he was a great man and a wonderful brother. There were 13 years between us, but that didn't stop him from going out of his way to spend time with me! ![]() LoveBug - I hope I made him proud - I sure am proud of him! He loved children, and had 11 of his own - worked three jobs to support them, so they never went hungry and always had a roof over their heads - and his home was always filled with love! ![]() Seymour - thank you for your kind comments! My memories of Kirk are all wonderful keepsakes, stored on the shelves of my heart. ![]() Marge - so sorry to hear about your loss! Sometimes it seems so senseless, when we lose loved ones! But, I feel blessed that I had the opportunity to share so many wonderful experiences with Kirk while he was here. {{{HUGS}}} back! ![]() Lone Wolf - thank you, my friend! Yes, Kirk will continue to live as long as I draw breath! ![]() Parker - I believe that, too! I feel that Kirk has become my "Guardian Angel," and is always watching over me. ![]() WildChild - thank you! He really was a wonderful man! He had severe diabetes (runs in the family,) which can be very limiting. But, he never let it slow him down. In addition to working three jobs to support his family, he made time to coach his children in soccer, attend their swim meets, etc. He devoted so much time to helping the soccer program, that the Youth Soccer Association created a Kirk Hoecherl Award, that is given for outstanding service. I really miss him, but he will live on not only in my heart, but in the hearts of all the others whose lives he touched! ![]() Thank you all again for your wonderful comments! ![]() Troy Beautiful, Thought-Provoking Poetry http://www.h-systems.net/p1.htm |
