Earthly Conversation "Pathetic humans," said the tree to the spotted owl, "They don't care what happens to trees that bring air to all." "Oh, Please," answered the spotted owl his voice filled with destain You think you got it bad just let me explain." The owl was rather grumpy as he had recently lost his mate. Before the owl could finish a bald headed eagle swooped on down to complain, A tree, a tree! You can be replanted - it might take years you know - but what about me? Before the tree could answer - a whale did offer a water spout - splash ---"Ah ha! what about me?, you selfish tree! They kill me just for sport!" Quite upset and ready to apologize the tree's atonement was cut off short! A turtle trying to roll off his back - wiggling his legs endeavoring to turn over as he did exclaim, "They eat me!" A deer loped by and stopped with her brown doe eyes ----"Me too, me too! And on the walls in their ugly home, my lover's antlers reside." The tree quickly sputtered, though he felt for the deer, --"Yeah, a house made out my kind!" His words were quick for they had to be for along came the whispering wind. "You will see - as I gulp for air and up I go to the ozone layer!" the wind mentioned worriedly and made a huge breeze. The seven began to argue with tongues afire when a lone wolf stopped them while he howled out his desire, "I am not supposed to be alone," he wailed woefully. A quiet hush came upon the group as they listened to themselves; their hearts broken in two. The tree bent with the aid of the wind and he softly spoke, "Listen to us, we sound like human folk. Please stop this petty fighting - it is not like we have long to live with mankind that are so wasteful and horrid." Begrudgingly, they all did stop their insane stupid fight, and talked among themselves wondering what to do and how to make it right. The tree stopped feeling sorry for himself as unlike most the others - when his enemy came to kill him off, he was rooted to the ground A young girl walked by and smelled a pretty flower, patted the tree and twirled in the wind. She saw the doe and a gentle sigh pressed through her lips - and in the sky she spied the eagle and the owl, sweetly waved and said, "Hello!" Out at sea, she saw the whale flipping his mighty tail. "Hi Ya Big Cool Whale!" she said brightly with wonderment and awe. "My, my, you are a big one, you surely are!" She walked gently toward the turtle and pushed him with all her might - til he got on his feet and gratefully smiled her way - she was making things right. Then she saw the wolf was all alone and asked him to come play. Lonely and sad, he came to her in a loyal lone wolf sort of way. The girl looked around her, smelling the fresh air, and shouted out to all of nature, "When I grow up - I shall be a writer, and send messages about saving earth everywhere!" Then her voice came to almost a quiet hush! "One voice can turn into many, and I won't be shushed!" The eight of nature's creatures - quietly reflected - there might be hope - for all of us, with this new human generation. To MOTHER EARTH may we all save you! netswan [This message has been edited by netswan (edited 04-17-2000).] |

I do believe you've made me believe. As the saying goes it just takes one person with a vision, to change the world. I think kirk said that to Spock in an alternate universe. Great story, challege met again. Parker |

NS...this is exceptional and creative... this should be in book form and illustrated and given to kids in elementary school... very nice work here... and THANK YOU so much for the info and facts you posted on my Earth day poem!! very helpful. very cool, thanks for caring, take care, jm Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders And it makes me want to touch you there. And the light in your eyes makes me feel Like there's something much better out there Something kind... And I know someday I might be looking around Trying to find some purpose Well purpose it can't be that hard to find As long as I've got the wind... The wind and your love to carry me. vertical horizon |

Netswan, I agree with Janet. You should have this illustrated and submit it to a publisher if you haven't already. It is a truly powerful and inspirational piece. Jeffrey |
