I wonder at times what would happen If I just simply walked away Turned my back on this ruddy path Shut my door in the face of day Would the road much less traveled Still stretch into forever – miles Would birds still fly in stormy skies Seek shelter on white sanded isles Silently I sit, in darkened space Adrift ‘pon seas of circle-thought And wonder if this meager raft Is truly out of paper, wrought Is it strong enough to bear my weight Or will it melt into black nothing-ness I fear those waves of fathoms deep And the breaking weight of loneliness If I close my eyes – try to sleep Will my demons plague the dreams Will I be left with false respite Waking to hear my solitary screams If from softly parted lips, were To escape a simple sigh Would it float along, unheard By the hands of distance, die And if I could, but remove this heart Beating true, from hollowed breast A mind allowed an icy calm Unneeded feelings laid to rest I wonder if I crafted bricks of stone If I built about me a giant wall If I lived life in my castle strong I wonder if I’d really be missed at all |
